Critics Disagree on the Least Reliable Sixth-Gen Chevrolet Camaro
The Chevrolet Camaro’s sixth-generation model will be the last gas-powered iteration of the historic nameplate before Chevy discontinues it. However, the sixth-gen car extends back to 2016, meaning there are plenty of model years to peruse. Still, not everyone agrees on which of the latest Chevrolet Camaros is the most unreliable, with the 2017 and 2019 models up for debate.
Which sixth-gen Chevrolet Camaros are the least reliable?
Critics of the sixth-generation Camaro lineup disagree over the least reliable model. Some evaluators cite the 2017 model, which exhibits some transmission issues. Others claim the 2019 Chevrolet Camaro’s low reliability scores are a detriment to its merit as a used performance car.
As a result, owners might be better off opting for a different model year, like the 2020 or 2018 Camaro. Those model years still include the 455-horsepower 6.2L V8 engines that fans love, as well as the track-ready ZL1.
Is the 2017 Camaro a reliable car?
The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro has 38 NHTSA complaints about powertrain issues, most commonly improper transmission operation. Additionally, the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro earned a spot on Consumer Reports’ list of “Used Cars to Avoid Buying.”
The 2017 model is the only Camaro on CR’s list of cars from the last 10 years to avoid. However, it’s not alone in the Bow Tie’s performance segment; the 2015 and 2016 Chevrolet Corvettes also made the list.
Is the 2019 Chevy Camaro reliable?
The 2019 Chevrolet Camaro earned a 2.0 out of 5.0 from J.D. Power in terms of overall predicted reliability. That’s an entire point less than a comparable S550 Ford Mustang from the same timeframe.
Moreover, the 2019 model’s five NHTSA complaints about drivetrain issues could point to an expensive or frustrating issue. Still, five complaints from the 48,266 Camaros that the Bow Tie sold in 2019 aren’t a pressing issue.
Which year Camaro is the most reliable?
Unsurprisingly, the most recent models have the lowest number of owner-reported reliability issues. The 2023, 2022, and 2021 Chevrolet Camaros have very few NHTSA complaints, and the 2020 Camaro has just four NHTSA complaints of electrical problems like faulty check engine and seatbelt lights.
In terms of earlier models in the sixth-generation lineup, the 2018 Camaro earned a 3.5 out of 5.0 from J.D. Power for reliability. That’s a full point higher than the 2019 model.
