Critics Disagree on Which SUV to Buy
There are many great SUVs on the market right now, and it can be tough to decide. This is precisely where car critics come in handy, as they provide shoppers with their expert opinion after thoroughly testing many different cars. That said, car critics disagree regarding the best SUV to buy.
The Honda CR-V is Kelley Blue Book’s pick
According to Kelley Blue Book, the Honda CR-V is one of the best SUVs. The CR-V is already very popular, and Honda gave the SUV a total redesign for the 2023 model year. This redesign has only improved the CR-V, and its interior and tech are superb. The Honda SUV has a 1.5-liter turbo four-cylinder engine that gets 190 hp, allowing the SUV to get about 30 mpg combined.
The CR-V starts at about $31,000, its only fundamental flaw as the price tag is expensive for the class. Overall, the CR-V is excellent in every area that is cared about. It drives well, it’s fuel efficient, and it even comes with a new standard feature that used to be reserved for luxury cars.
Car and Driver really like the Kia Telluride
According to Car and Driver, one of the best SUVs on the market right now is the Kia Telluride. Kelley Blue Book and other car critics also praise the Kia SUV, and it’s easy to see why it’s such a popular car. The Telluride has few, if any, flaws.
It starts at about $35,000, and its 291-hp V6 engine only allows it to get 23 mpg combined. That’s not a great fuel economy, but other than that, it’s a great SUV in every area. The cabin is large and spacious, and it seats up to eight thanks to its three rows of seats. The Telluride has many tech features, including a standard 12.3-inch touchscreen.
Edmunds likes the Kia Telluride and the Hyundai Palisade
According to Edmunds, the Telluride is also one of its top picks for many of the same reasons Car and Driver gave. However, the Hyundai Palisade is another top pick. In fact, the two SUVs are only separated by a score of 0.1 out of 10. The Palisade starts at about $35,000 and is very similar to the Telluride.
Hyundai gave the Palisade the same 291 hp V6 engine on the Telluride, but the Palisade gets a slightly worse fuel economy of about 22 mpg combined. The Hyundai’s interior is very similar to the Kia’s, as both have a large and spacious cabin that can seat up to eight people, and both cabins are loaded with features.
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 wins in MotorTrend’s eyes
According to MotorTrend, one of the best SUVs right now is an electric SUV. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 has a great score of 9.4 out of 10, and that’s higher than what MotorTrend gave to the CR-V, the Palisade, and the Telluride. Since the Ioniq 5 is an EV, it will be more expensive than many other options. It starts at about $41,500, but owners can apply for incentives.
Like many other great SUVs, the Ioniq 5 provides drivers with a good balance of features for its price tag. The EV’s standard battery allows it to go 220 miles, and Hyundai offers a long-range option that boosts that number to 303 miles. The Hyundai’s cabin is also very nice and futuristic, and it has a “premium feel.”
