One of the most appealing aspects of the 2021 Ford F-150 is just how customizable it is. However, going crazy with available options could easily make your brand-new F-150 quite expensive. So what if you skip on the fancy aesthetic packages and bigger wheel options to focus on upgrading core components?

That is exactly what The Fast Lane Truck did when ordering its brand-new truck. While it may look a bit barebones on the outside, this configuration might be the one to buy.

Why is this 2021 Ford F-150 configuration so good?

If you need all of the gadgets and aesthetic packages, this 2021 Ford F-150 configuration isn’t for you. For starters, we have a base XL trim, which starts at $28,940. However, this truck is a SuperCrew with a five-and-a-half-inch bed, which brings the base price to $36,650.

If that sounds like any normal base-model 2021 Ford F-150, you’ll want to look under the hood. That’s because this truck houses the 3.5-liter twin-turbo PowerBoost hybrid engine. As a result, we have a base model truck with one of the most expensive engine options onboard. This results in a total power output of 430-hp and 570 lb-ft.

Inside, this 2021 Ford F-150 has only what you need and nothing you don’t. For starters, the center dash houses the smaller eight-inch infotainment screen. Despite this, it still offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

In terms of capabilities, this truck houses both the FX4 off-road package and the towing package. The result is one of the cheapest ways to get into what is without about one of the most capable F-150’s currently available.

This configuration is far from cheap

While this 2021 Ford F-150 configuration focuses on key performance components rather than outright flash, it is far from cheap. The truck’s base price with the cab and bed configuration is $36,650. On top of that, The Fast Lane Truck decided to option the 101A package for $920, which adds cruise control and a reverse sensing system.

The aforementioned FX4 off-road package adds $1,005 to the price. However, you do get key components such as rock crawl mode, an off-road-tuned suspension, hill descent control, and protective skid plates throughout. The $1,090 trailer tow package also bumps up the price but allows this 2021 Ford F-150 to tow over 12,000 lb.

While all of these options sound expensive, the engine under the hood is the big-ticket item here. On the base XL trim, the hybrid engine is a $4,495 optional extra. Adding that powerful and expensive powertrain to such a base model truck is likely why this configuration won’t be replicated often. On top of that, the total for all of the discussed components surpasses $50,000 once you add in all of the associated fees.

This might also be one of the quickest F-150’s available

Aside from the obvious fuel-efficiency benefits, adding the PowerBoost engine to the 2021 Ford F-150 makes it quite quick. According to MotorTrend, the PowerBoost-equipped truck it tested reached 60 mph in just 5.3 seconds. However, it is worth noting that the MotorTrend truck was a Lariat, which is quite heavier than this base XL model. As a result, The Fast Lane Truck’s F-150 might not be one of the most capable, but also one of the quickest.

You’ll see a PowerBoost-equipped truck keeping up with and beating a Raptor in one of the races shown in the video embedded above. As unusual as this configuration might be, beating a Raptor in your base-model F150 might be the strangest part of all.
