We have a plot twist in the truck world for you today! The Toyota Tacoma is often thought of as the most reliable truck, but the Nissan Frontier is the real winner here. Five years of data proves that the Frontier has the fewest problems. 

The Nissan Frontier is the most reliable truck 

According to J.D.Power, the Nissan Frontier has been the most reliable truck in its class for the past five years. 

This dependability study is based on surveys sent to truck owners after three years of ownership, allowing them to share any problems that they may have faced. 

The survey has about 184 areas that cover the paint, electronics, climate control system, performance, interior quality, powertrain, tech controls, comfort, and more. 

The Nissan Frontier ranks as the most reliable truck for 2019, 2020, and 2021. Remember that the study is based on trucks after three years, so the most reliable models from the past five years include the 2017, 2018, and 2019 trucks.

Then the Toyota Tacoma took the top spot in 2023 and 2024. Its most reliable models from the past five years are from 2020 and 2021. 

The Frontier has three first-place wins, and the Tacoma has two. But Toyota wins overall with seven most reliable wins and Nissan only has four. 

But the Frontier was redesigned in 2021 and the Toyota Tacoma was redesigned for 2024, so the rankings may change. We can’t wait to see how these trucks with new engine options hold up after three years. 

J.D.Power gave the 2023 Frontier a reliability ranking of 84 out of 100, which is good. Scores between 70 and 80 are average, anything between 81 and 90 is above average, and scores between 91 and 100 are best. 

Also, J.D.Power gave the 2023 Tacoma a score of 83, so the Frontier is only one point ahead. Scores for the 2024 Frontier haven’t been released yet. 

If you’re looking for a used truck from the past five years, you may want to consider the Frontier instead of the Tacoma to get the most reliable truck.
