It’s easy to assume that the deadliest SUV in America is the Ford Bronco or Jeep Wrangler. They are boxy vehicles that are prone to flipping. But a larger SUV is actually responsible for the most fatal accidents.

The Chevy Tahoe is the deadliest SUV in America

Surprise: the Jeep Wrangler and Ford Bronco might be safer than you think. According to Convoy Car Shipping, the Chevrolet Tahoe is the deadliest SUV in America.

It ranks as the 15th deadliest vehicle on the list of the top 50 deadliest vehicles overall. In 2022, the Tahoe was involved in 569 fatal accidents.

But hey, that number sounds good compared to the 14 deadlier trucks and cars that outrank it. The Toyota Camry is the deadliest sedan with 1,201 fatal accidents in 2022. Also, the Ford F-150 is the deadliest truck and vehicle overall with 2,418 fatal accidents.

There were 60,501 vehicles involved in 39,221 fatal accidents in 2022. It tracks for the F-150 to be the deadliest vehicle because it’s the most popular one. More people are in F-150 trucks than the Camry.

Putting on a slightly different lens, If you take a look at the most traffic deaths by volume, the Jeep Cherokee is the deadliest SUV. It has 36.48 fatal accidents per vehicle sold and was involved in 554 fatal accidents in 2022.

The Chevy Tahoe has 23.92 fatal accidents per 100,000 models sold. But it still has more deaths overall in 2022.

While the Jeep Wrangler has a reputation for not being very safe, it’s further down, as the 25th deadliest vehicle on the overall list. It was involved in 480 fatal accidents in 2022.

The Ford Bronco was just getting back to business in 2022 after years of being discontinued. However, the older models were boxy, lacking modern safety features, and prone to flipping.

That’s why the Bronco II is known as one of the deadliest vehicles from the past 50 years with roughly 823 rollover deaths.
