After nearly two decades, the Nissan Frontier is finally a new truck. And the updates Nissan has made to its mid-size pickup have helped to make it the second-best-selling mid-size truck on the market. Second only to the 2022 Toyota Tacoma. The 2022 Frontier is available in a variety of trim levels, including one that may be confusing to some, the Nissan Frontier PRO-X. This truck is not the same as the Frontier PRO-4X, but it does share some similarities, and for that reason, it may be worth buying. 

What is the difference between the Nissan Frontier PRO-X and PRO-4X?

The Nissan Frontier PRO-X is essentially the two-wheel-drive version of the Frontier PRO-4X. It does not offer all of the same capabilities, but it is capable enough to handle most truck needs. For instance, the PRO-X package on the 2022 Nissan Frontier adds things like Bilstein off-road shocks, which should help with comfort when taking the road less traveled. 

Better yet, according to Car and Driver, this truck also has a fairly comfortable interior. It will not be as luxurious as something like the Ford F-150 King Ranch, but it does also not have as high of a price tag. Inside, owners will find red stitching featured throughout as well as leather materials, which is something that is likely to be appreciated. 

How expensive is the Nissan Frontier PRO-X?

The 2022 Frontier PRO-X has a starting cost of $35,120. In comparison, the Frontier PRO-4X starts at over $38,000. Because of this, the PRO-X is the more affordable option, especially if you are not someone who needs a 4WD truck. Additionally, this Nissan Frontier model comes standard with a 9.0-inch touchscreen to allow you to connect your mobile device to your truck. 

Another benefit of opting for this truck is the Wi-Fi hotspot, this system can provide you with connectivity even if you are in remote areas depending on service. Other notable features include a spray-in bedliner which will provide your bed with some added protection while you are hauling cargo. 

Is the 2022 Nissan Frontier a new truck?

For what seemed like forever, the Nissan Frontier was one of the oldest trucks available. But for 2022, Nissan has finally introduced a nearly all-new Frontier model. Now, this truck does still ride on a frame that dates back to the early 2000s, but the suspension has been revised among other things. 

Because of this, the 2022 Frontier is newer than models like the current Toyota Tacoma and Ford Ranger. And that gives it a bit of an edge over the competition. Perhaps one of the most notable features of this mid-size truck is its powertrain. Nissan has given the 2022 Frontier a standard V6 engine which sets it apart from its rivals. 

With the V6 engine, you do not have to pay extra for more power, because the Frontier already has it. Although it is worth noting that this truck no longer offers a standard transmission, which may be disappointing to some. Especially for those shopping for a capable truck like the Frontier PRO-X.
