Subaru today debuted its new Outback at the 2022 New York Auto Show. Subaru has adorned the 2023 model with a new face, two engine options, more tech, and added safety features. These are the most changes for the SUV since this generation of Outback was introduced in 2017.

It has also added a new Onyx Edition trim, tucked in between the Premium and Wilderness trims. Among other features, it can be ordered with the 2.5-liter Boxer flat-six engine, as well as the 2.4-liter turbocharged engine. Black-finish exterior enhancements include black alloy wheels, badging, and an exclusive gray interior.

Subaru recently improved its dual-camera EyeSight Driver Assist technology and Wide-Angle Mono Camera, which are now incorporated into the new Outback. Other technology news is an updated multimedia system and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. With Touring trim, an LCD Smart rear-view mirror is added, along with auto-dimming, a compass, and Homelink, which allows users to wirelessly control garage doors, security gates, etc.

Every 2023 Outback features Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, Active Torque Vectoring, Vehicle Dynamics Control, and X MODE. Power is distributed through the Lineartronic CVT eight-speed automatic transmission with manual mode function and paddle shifters. Combined, it delivers 23 mpg city, and 30 mpg highway, for the 2.4-liter engine. With the Boxer engine that increases to 33 mpg. Towing capacity has also been increased to 3,500 lbs.

Subaru has also introduced a new feature called “what3words” which allows the user to say only three words to communicate exact locations like trailheads and other hard-to-find places. It comes standard with the STARLINK navigation system.

So Subaru has plugged into the 2023 Outback a lot of new and updated technologies, along with a refreshed front end and the new Onyx trim. Look for it to arrive later this year.
