Later today Cadillac will debut its refreshed 2022 CT4-V and CT5-V Blackwing sedans. While they look somewhat like their Cadillac sedan siblings they incorporate some unique differences outside and inside. The first thing you notice is the aggressive front end with the zoomy air intakes. 

Both Blackwings receive aggressive fascias and aero body kits

The fascias aren’t the only visuals that change. Cadillac uses an aerodynamic body kit that features a rear spoiler and front splitter. In addition, canards are added to the CT4-V. Both models also feature aero side-skirts and vented front fenders. But there’s more.

Forged magnesium wheels have been added to help reduce unsprung weight. Ride and handling are also improved with the mags. Inside is a digital instrument cluster and leather-wrapped sport steering wheel featuring carbon fiber accents. With the CT5-V version carbon fiber front seats can be ordered. They feature laser-etched V-Series logos on them. 

Cadillac says the CT5-V is capable of 200 mph top speed

Power is from a twin-turbo 3.6-liter V6 with more than 465 hp and 445 lb-ft of torque in the CT4-V. Moving up to the CT5-V comes a 6.2-liter V8 with 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque. Cadillac says the CT5-V is capable of a 200 mph top speed. Either version can have a six-speed manual trans. A ten-speed automatic is also available. 

After their debut, this evening reservations will be open. With a $1,000 downstroke, you can get in line. The CT5-V especially will be a limited production car. And it goes without saying these will be the last gas-powered Cadillacs sold. GM already announced it wants Cadillac to be all-electric by 2025. Already, these are the last new sedans that GM makes. Chevrolet still has the Malibu sedan which received a refresh in 2019 but has remained basically the same since 2016.

The CT4-V and CT5-V Blackwings seem out of step with Cadillac’s electric future

Cadillac is going through one of its latest resets which almost makes the CT4-V and CT5-V Blackwings seem out of step with its future plans. We haven’t tested either model but these could be the closest thing to a BMW or Audi sedan that an American car company can produce. Too bad it had to wait to happen right at the end of the gas-powered epoch.
