On Sept. 12, in the afternoon, deputies in Macomb County, Michigan, received reports of a pickup truck driving erratically. When they located the GMC Sierra in Mount Clemens, a city northeast of Detroit, they activated their lights and sirens. The driver didn’t stop.

Pulling up alongside the truck, deputies quickly realized the driver was suffering some kind of medical emergency. His arms lay mostly slack at his sides. Repeatedly, Deputy Nicole Miron, who was in the passenger seat of her patrol vehicle, instructed the driver to stop the vehicle. Then, realizing he was in something of a partially responsive daze, she started tapping the window, telling him to roll it down.

The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office released traffic and body camera footage of the incident.

As surrounding vehicles slowed and allowed ample space, the 63-year-old driver eventually rolled his window down and even hit the brakes for a short period of time. Deputy Miron shows no hesitation in climbing from her patrol vehicle through the GMC Sierra’s left front window.

Quickly, she reached over to the gear shift and put the truck in park, ending the dangerous scenario. Body cam footage shows the man’s right arm at his side and left hand moving slowly.

Deputy Miron even called a family member to inform them of the man’s condition. The local fire department arrived to treat and transport the man.

“Due to her quick thinking and selfless actions, she safely ended what could have been a tragic situation,” said Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham.
