You may have noticed that the Honda Ridgeline is one the highest-rated trucks of the year. Critics favor the 2020 Ridgeline because of its luxurious amenities, and buyers have been pretty happy with their trucks too. But even though the Ridgeline comes highly recommended, it’s not quite a best-seller.

Like we just mentioned, critics and buyers agree that the 2020 Ridgeline is a satisfying pickup. Honda Ridgeline boats power, smoothness, and comfort. Still, the Ridgeline is toward the bottom of its class in terms of sales figures.

According to recent data from PickupTruckTalk, is second to last in 2020 midsize truck sales. Honda sold 8,607 Ridgelines in Q3 2020, bringing its total unit sales for the pickup to by the end of last quarter. This puts the Ridgeline behind less favorable rivals, including the Nissan Frontier.  Toyota’s Tacoma is the best-selling model in the class with 163,619 sales figures by the end of Q3; the GMC Canyon comes in at last place.

Low sales and all, the Ridgeline is still a compelling vehicle, and it has the amenities to prove it. The 2020 Ridgeline is available in four different trim levels with each variant more luxurious than the next. All Ridgeline models are powered by the same 280-hp 3.5-liter V6 engine linked to a nine-speed automatic transmission. 

An untraditional pickup in many ways, the Ridgeline surprises from behind the wheel. On the road, it is well-mannered and feels extremely competent. Its coil-sprung independent rear suspension contributes to a carlike ride quality not available with the leaf-sprung, solid-axle setups used by the competition.

The Ridgeline’s forcefulness and agility make it one of the most refined pickups available today. However, what makes the Ridgeline less popular with truck enthusiasts is its towing capacity.  The Ridgeline can tow up to 5,000 pounds which is fine for a midsize SUV but less impressive for the midsize truck class.

In addition to its low towing capacity, another downside to the Ridgeline is its lackluster capabilities off-road. On the plus, this Honda can handle muddy conditions, it’s not ideal for serious off-roading. That said, you are better off looking at competitors like the Ford Ranger for more extreme adventures. 

The new 2021 Honda Ridgeline might entice you

For 2021, you could say that Honda is on mission to convert more truck fans. Besides some of its limited performance capabilities, the Ridgeline also isn’t known for its looks. It’s got a curvy shape that doesn’t command the same assertiveness that its competition does. However, Honda has refreshed the Ridgeline for 2021.

The refreshed Ridgeline has a revamped hood, front bumper, and a larger power bulge. Honda also added more dynamic 18-inch wheels to each trim level for the 2021 model. Additionally, the Ridgeline returns for 2021 with a more user-friendly infotainment system that can make car rides more enjoyable.
