Supercar owners can be pretty tiring. I once made a joke to a Lamborghini Huracan owner in NYC. He was rattling on about his Huracan, and once he was done, I responded with, “Yeah, Ok, but how is it in the mud?” He did not find it to be nearly as funny as I did. Although I was being absurd back then, he’s laughing now. That’s right; a guy has built a 4×4 Lamborghini Huracan as a full-blown off-roader to compete in the legendary Mint 400. 

Can you take a Lamborghini Huracan off-road?

Sure. But, you have to do a lot to it first. The Drive reports that YouTuber, Chris Steinbacher, has been hard at work to create what he calls the world’s first off-road Huracan out of a totally wrecked carcass. Steinbacher came across a totaled Hurcan chassis in a salvage yard in Illinois. His mind began running, and he pitched his idea for the “Jumpacan” to the folks who owned the auto parts yard. The owner was intrigued by the idea and gave Steinbacher the Huracan chassis, but he had to ship it back home to his home in Oregon. 

Lamborghini Huracan specs

For reference, a new Huracan (when they were still available) ran about $200,000 depending on options. Thankfully for Steinbacher, they came in either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. These land-locked jet fighters came in many colors, had a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox, plenty of traction control computers, and adaptive suspension. To really drive the point home, the Huracan came with a lovely 5.2-liter V10 602 hp if you went with the AWD version and 630 hp if you opted for RWD. 

The one Steinbacher grabbed was stripped of anything worthwhile and was headed to the crusher making his job quite the undertaking. 

Let the games begin

For Steinbacher, so much of the appeal of this build is the childlike absurdity of it all. He said, “The opportunity to do something this insane to a Lamborghini was too good to pass up.”  After shipping the chassis off to the folks at SE Motors and a full 3D scan was done, they began planning out and fabricating a new suspension system for the salvaged Huracan. The new system will strengthen the Lambo’s stress points, making it better for off-roading and jumping. 

Naturally, Steinbacher plans to keep the Lamborghini styling, but it will most certainly not be overly Huracany once he’s done. The classic Lambo doors will remain the same, thankfully. Unlike other off-road sports car conversions, the Huracan should work better because of its mid-engined setup and stronger chassis. After all, most Baja racers are mid-engined, so he’s got that going for him. 

Does the Huracan come with a manual transmission?

Not normally, but this one will. One of the coolest parts of this build is the choice to make this a stick shift Lamborghini. If having a Huracan off-road wasn’t cool enough, being able to heel-toe your way through corners will raise the fun-attuide by at least 1000000 percent. 

The Mint 400 is the goal

While this Lambo may seem a little silly, Steinbacher fully intends to race his contraption at the legendary Mint 400, the oldest off-road race in America. As it stands, the Mint is delayed due to COVID, which just means “The Jumpacan” will get more testing and wrenching before the big day.
