Genesis has been hard at work, looking to create its own path in the luxury sedan class. And the Korean automaker has been successful in turning heads and gaining a following. The 2021 Genesis G80 certainly plans to maintain momentum with sleek styling and premium luxury. And the interior technology is state-of-the-art. So much so that some are wondering if Genesis took a page from Tesla’s playbook of innovation.

The one feature the Genesis G80 may have borrowed from Tesla

The 2021 Genesis G80 is chock-full of technology that harnesses the most convenient touches for the ultimate driving experience. And one of the concepts that Genesis implemented feels an awful lot like a Tesla innovation. In fact, Genesis may have been studying Tesla’s homework when it implemented a cool driver display image.

The screen will portray an image of the G80 itself and in its own lane. But it also shows all surrounding vehicles in the color heads-up display. This is a safety feature that helps you be fully aware of your surroundings before making a lane change or to know what’s around you while you’re on the highway.

Other automakers are taking a hint

Genesis isn’t the only automaker taking hints from Tesla innovations. Other luxury brands have also begun to implement Tesla-inspired tech and designs in an effort to keep up. BMW, for example, is rolling out electric versions of its 5 Series, X1, and 7 Series models. Mercedes-Benz is also venturing into battery-powered mobility. It’s introducing two luxury sedans (EQS and EQE) and an SUV (EQS SUV) next year in an attempt to compete with Tesla, according to InputMag.

The Genesis G80 has an impressive interior

The 2021 Genesis G80 has more than just a cool, Tesla-inspired view in the display. According to MotorTrend, the Prestige package introduces the autostereoscopic gauge cluster that sprawls 12.3 inches and offers a 3-D perspective. There is also an infrared eye-monitoring camera that directs the driver’s attention. The infotainment interface also features a new rotary swiping knob and other ergonomic controls. 

Other high-quality interior components include the 14-channel, 1,050-watt, 21-speaker Lexicon audio experience. With subwoofers under the front seats, you might feel like you’re in the front row of a concert. There is also Smart Posture technology, Ergo Motion, and adjustable seats that situate 16 different ways. Acoustic glass and soft-close doors add a subtle touch of quiet tranquility, too.

Other features you didn’t know you needed

You’ll probably love some of the other features in the 2021 Genesis G80. Parallel park or perpendicular park this luxury sedan from outside the car with its Remote Smart Parking Assistant. There are extra driver aids, as well, including collision avoidance warnings and automatic braking. These engage based on blind spots, cross-traffic, and pedestrians. You’ll enjoy ambient lighting and heated/ventilated technologies in the driver’s seat as well.

When most luxury sedans, including the likes of Acura and Cadillac, take a full seven seconds to reach 60 mph, the Genesis G80 can do it in 5.9 seconds. The G80 harnesses 300 hp in its 2.5-liter AWD version and can achieve over 97 mph in the quarter-mile stint and in 14.3 seconds. You may not think you need that kind of speed in a luxury sedan. However, once you have it, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it.

The midsize luxury sedan class is only going to get more upscale, more tech-infused, and even more Tesla-inspired in the model years to come. The 2021 Genesis G80 is undoubtedly taking a page from Tesla’s homework in at least one image concept. But there’s a movement among the segment as a whole as luxury brands look to compete and keep up with Tesla’s innovations. And it will only translate to more convenience, better technology, and even higher-quality behind-the-wheel experiences for car buyers.
