Elon Musk and Tesla have been slowly but surely becoming the next biggest thing in the car world. One of the reasons for that has been Tesla’s innovative designs, especially when it comes to something like the Cybertruck. And, with Ford’s unveiling of its new F-150, Ford ended up proving Elon Musk and Tesla right once again.

What Elon Musk said about trucks

Before Tesla finally unveiled the Cybertruck last November, Musk gave a short speech about his thoughts on trucks in America. As Musk said, all trucks have pretty much looked the same for about 100 years. Obviously, there are a few exceptions, but by and large, Musk has a point. This was one of the reasons why Tesla went with such a strange design with the Cybertruck.

The Cybertruck, as many people know, looks more like a truck that’s from a video game than a truck that’s coming out of a factory anytime soon. While the Cybertruck’s design is different from the designs of other trucks, that’s kind of the point. Like Musk said, every truck has looked about the same for so long, so the Cybertruck’s design easily distinguishes it from everything else. 

In a way, the Cybertruck’s design is a way for Tesla to tell customers that the Cybertruck isn’t like the other trucks on the market. The Cybertruck is the truck of the future, while trucks like the F-150 and the Silverado are trucks of the past. And, when Ford unveiled its 14th generation of F-150s, Ford proved this point for Tesla.

Ford unveils the new F-150

As Car and Driver reported, the 14th generation Ford F-150 has a lot of futuristic features that aren’t actually out of place on a Tesla. That said, unlike the Cybertruck, Ford isn’t releasing its all-electric F-150 for at least two more years. However, the 2021 F-150 will have something new that’ll bridge the gap between gas and diesel engines and electric motors.  

That something, of course, is a hybrid engine option. This brand-new option for the F-150 will give the truck a gas-powered 3.5-liter V6 that works closely with a 35-kW electric motor. That electric motor has a 1.5-kWh battery attached to it, and it’ll give the truck an extra 47 hp.

This hybrid option allows the F-150 to tow about 12,000-pounds. This makes it more powerful than the single and dual motor options for the Cybertruck, but the triple motor option tows about 2,000-pounds more. 

Another new addition to the F-150 is the concept of over-the-air updates. For a while, Tesla was one of the few automakers that used over-the-air updates for its cars, and now, more and more automakers are adding it to their cars. That said, while these changes, and few more, are significant, this new F-150 proved Musk right when it comes to its design.

How Ford proved Elon Musk right

Tesla and Ford have been taking shots at each other over social media for a while now, but unfortunately for Ford fans, Ford has shot itself in the foot by proving Tesla right. Overall, the 2021 F-150 just doesn’t look that different from the other F-150s that Ford has been making for decades.

Like Car and Driver wrote, the new F-150 “is less of an overhaul than we expected.” This is true for both inside the truck, and outside of it as well. While this proves Musk right, this might just be what Ford fans want to buy as the F-150 is still an incredibly popular truck. It also helps that the 2021 F-150 will start at $30,000, which makes it about $10,000 cheaper than the Cybertruck.
