Did This F-150 XLT Skip Leg Day? Even the Ford Maverick Can Haul More
Some Ford F-150 XLTs offer a 6.2-liter V8 and 4WD. The resulting truck may be able to accelerate to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds, but has a payload capacity of just 1,310 pounds. Ford’s new compact Maverick, on the other hand, can haul at least 1,500 pounds.
What’s the lowest F-150 payload rating?
Most of Ford’s F-150 pickup trucks, even its base XL model trucks with a 290 horsepower naturally-aspirated V6, can haul at least 1,700 pounds of passengers and cargo. But if you order an especially heavy powertrain, such as the 6.2-liter V8 and 4WD, you can cut this capacity down to 1,310 pounds–according to Stevens Jersey City Ford.
Other F-150 pickup trucks can haul much more. If you add Ford’s heavy-duty payload package to your F-150 you’ll get heavy-duty rear leaf springs. You’ll also get a beefy rear axle with a 9.75-inch gearset, a 3.73 axle ratio, and an electronic locking differential. Ford will even upgrade your fuel tank to a 36-gallon unit and add all-terrain tires on 18-inch aluminum rims.
Depending on the configuration of your F-150 with the heavy-duty payload package (cab size, 4WD, etc.), it can haul up to 2,248 pounds of passengers and cargo. Every auto manufacturer prints the payload capacity of its pickup trucks on a sticker inside the driver-side door frame. Make sure to double-check your capacity before loading up.
How much weight can a Ford Maverick carry?
Ford’s compact Maverick truck may only weigh 3,600 pounds, but it has a surprisingly high payload capacity. The 2022 Ford Maverick can carry between 1,512 and 1,564 pounds, depending on how you configure it, so Ford advertises a 1500-pound payload capacity.
The all-new Ford Maverick comes in one of two very different configurations. You can order this truck with a hybrid, 2.5-liter engine and FWD. You can also upgrade to a 2.0-liter EcoBoost turbocharged engine that makes 250 horsepower. With the upgraded engine you can order either FWD or AWD.
The EcoBoost engine upgrade will adds $1,085 to the Maverick’s price, bumping its MSRP from $19,995 to $21,080.
How much can the Ford Maverick tow?
If you upgrade your Ford Maverick’s engine you won’t add anything to its 1,500-pound payload capacity. But you will double its towing capacity. With the hybrid drivetrain, the Ford Maverick can only tow 2,000 pounds. But when you upgrade your Maverick to the EcoBoost you can tow an impressive 4,000 pounds.
The Ford Maverick is a mighty little truck. Its 4,000-pound maximum towing capacity rivals the base-model F-150 XL‘s towing capacity of 5,000 pounds and exceeds the base Ranger’s towing capacity of 3,500 pounds.
