The Range Rover equipped with a V6 engine gets a combined 20 mpg while the V8 drops it down to 16 mpg. The Land Rover Discovery gets a combined 21 mpg, which makes sense since it only offers a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. The 1 mpg difference is not enough to make up for the loss of power the Discovery’s smaller engine provides.

Inside the vehicle, the Range Rover gets a new 13.1-inch curved infotainment display with the latest Land Rover Pivi Pro interface. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and Amazon Alexa is optional. Every model also comes with wireless smartphone charging, in-dash navigation, SiriusXM, and a 13.7-inch digital gauge display.

The Land Rover Discovery gets the same Pivi Pro system on an 11.4-inch touch screen. It also comes standard with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a wireless smartphone charging pad. The 12.3-inch digital gauge display also comes standard on every model.

What’s new with the Range Rover for 2022?

For 2022, the Range Rover is redesigned from the ground up as far as tech features, styling, and more. In a confusing fashion, the outgoing Range Rover is a 2022 model year, and so is the incoming. The incoming model year discontinues the diesel V6 and plug-in hybrid P400e models and keeps only the turbocharged inline-six and supercharged V8 as powertrain options. The 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 produces 523 hp and is taken from BMW, which it uses in M550i and X7 models.

Also available for an additional cost in the new model year is a “more robust” cabin air-ionization system, according to CarAndDriver. The new off-road luxury machine also gains Dynamic Response Pro, Land Rover’s 48-volt active anti-roll bar. The 2023 and 2024 model years will bring a plug-in hybrid model and a fully electric Range Rover, respectively.

What’s new with the Land Rover Discovery for 2023?

Virtually nothing changed for the Discovery during the 2022 model year, but 2023 brings plenty of change. It’s gaining a Metropolitan Edition, which is loaded with everything buyers could want. A 355 hp inline-six engine, 22-inch wheels, a head-up display, heated steering wheel, and three rows of heated seats are included. The exterior also receives styling changes to ensure the Metropolitan Edition stands out from other models.

The entire lineup gets more standard features for the 2023 model year. These include heated front seats, adaptive cruise control, three-zone automatic climate control, and a Meridian stereo system. With plenty of options to be added on, the standard Land Rover Discovery models can be kitted out. Though they’ll cost a pretty penny, with the S base model starting at $57,950.

Which is more expensive?

The Range Rover is significantly more expensive than the Land Rover Discovery. Though the Discovery is extremely luxurious and comes with plenty of features, there’s a reason the Range Rover is more well-equipped. That reason is the massive price tag. The 2022 Range Rover can’t be had for less than $105,350.

The Range Rover is a slightly larger SUV with more features and capability. It’s also wildly expensive and starts at $28,700 more than the highest trim Land Rover Discovery Metropolitan Edition. Prices like these make the Range Rover a lot less affordable, but its offerings may be worth it to some.

Though the Land Rover Discovery is a crossover SUV, it’s still very capable for off-road driving. It offers plenty of features for safety, convenience, and stability while traveling on any terrain. The Range Rover does everything the Discovery does but a bit better. Too bad the price isn’t only a bit higher.
