There is a Chevy Blazer and a Chevy Trailblazer, but how are they different? As both of these SUVs return from being discontinued, it can be easy to mix up all of the new options in the market. So, let’s take a look at how they compare. 

How The Chevy Blazer and Trailblazer Are Different 

Back in the day, the Chevy Blazer was one epic compact SUV that could go anywhere. It became a cult classic that some say put the Ford Bronco to shame. However, it was discontinued to focus on the Chevy Tahoe. 

There was also the beloved Chevy Trailblazer, which was a wildly successful mid-sized SUV. It was bigger than the Chevy Blazer to seat more passengers and haul heavier items. 

To fan’s dismay, the Chevy Trailblazer was also discontinued in 2009 as Chevy focused on the Traverse crossover. 

But now the Chevy Blazer and TrailBlazer are both experiencing a nameplate revival and are returning with new, significant changes. 

The 2020 Chevy Blazer 

The 2020 Chevy Blazer let fans down as hardly being close to a shadow of it’s past. Instead of a fully functional SUV on a truck frame, it’s a midsize SUV. 

It’s bigger than the Chevy Equinox and smaller than the Chevy Tahoe with a moderate starting price of about $28k. This is a little more than the Honda CR-V, which starts around $25k. 

Unlike the Blazer from the past, the 2020 Chevy Blazer is only available in front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. There is no four-wheel-drive option, which makes the new Blazer less capable than anticipated. 

Depending on which engine you choose, your Blazer can pump out between 192 to 308 horsepower. It can also tow up to 4,500 lb. 

The 2021 Chevy Trailblazer 

The 2021 Chevy Trailblazer seemingly turned its back on its historic glory days with its revival as well. 

This is because instead of a midsize SUV, the Trailblazer is returning as a compact SUV option. This will help it compete with models like the Nissan Kicks. 

It won’t be too small, though. The Chevy Trax will still be the smallest SUV that Chevrolet has to offer. 

However, the Chevy Trailblazer is expected to be a cheaper option, like the Ford EcoSport or Hyundai Tucson. 

You can get started in a Chevy Trailblazer for around $19k. Sales are projected to go on sale early in 2020. However, the Coronavirus (COVID-19) may delay production. 

But guess what doesn’t with this low price? Power. The new Chevy Trailblazer will only pump out up to 155 horsepower. Also, don’t get this SUV if you need the ability to tow anything. 

To our surprise, the 2021 Chevy Trailblazer will be offered in all-wheel drive. That’s great if you need to drive through a little snow. 

Both the Chevy Blazer and Trailblazer are new options Chevy has revived in an attempt to fill gaps in their market. However, they placed epic vehicle names on subpar options. 

While the Chevy Blazer and Trailblazer are both pretty competitive in their classes, the Blazer is the bigger, more capable brother to the upcoming Trailblazer.
