Do celebrities drive the cars they promote in ads?
Hearing your favorite actor, singer-songwriter, or reality TV disaster voice-over car ads is never out of the question. I mean, we’ve all heard Bryan Cranston narrate patriotic scenes of Ford F-Series trucks and buzzing factory floors. However, only so many celebrities own and drive the cars they promote in ads.
Some celebrities go beyond voice-overs for car ads– they own, drive, and love the cars they promote
You’d think that a big-time actor like Jon Hamm would end up in paparazzi snaps behind the wheel of a land yacht Cadillac. After all, he played the equal parts respected and reprehensible Don Draper in the hit series, Mad Men. However, Hamm has also promoted Mercedes-Benz in commercials for years.
Unsurprisingly, then, Hamm’s affinity lies with Mercedes-Benz. Consequently, the actor’s dream car is a strikingly beautiful Mercedes-Benz 300SL. You know the one. Think gullwing doors long before the DeLorean DMC-12. However, Hamm isn’t the only celeb with love for their promoted products.
- John Cena
- Derek Jeter
- Sydney Sweeney
- Chris Pine
On the big screen and the little screen, fans can still hear professional wrestler-turned-actor John Cena in Honda commercials. Of course, it’s his voice only– you can’t see him. See what I did there? Where you can see him, however, is in a Honda Civic Type R. That’s right. The big guy likes to grab a gear.
In addition to Cena, former star athlete and businessman Derek Jeter appeared in Jeep ads. Incidentally, the New York Yankees icon has owned at least one Jeep Grand Wagoneer, per Quartz.
In-vogue actor Sydney Sweeny is no stranger to Ford. The celebrity partnered with the Blue Oval to promote the brand’s cars, as well as a clothing line. However, Sweeney’s affinity extends to a collection of classic Ford cars, like a 1955 Ford Mustang and a classic Bronco.
Chris Pine has tenure promoting “The Ultimate Driving Machine” and “Sheer Driving Pleasure” for BMW. Still, unlike other celebrities and their affinity for the cars they promote, Pine demonstrated his BMW lieben with a 1967 BMW R50/2, a classic air-cooled motorcycle.
