The big, brawny Nissan Armada gets a small update for 2023 and a small price increase that now pushes the base Armada beyond the $50,000 barrier. That’s a lot of scratch, but the Armada is a lot of SUV. It’s Nissan’s top SUV, and in some trims, is better than even the Infiniti version, the Infiniti QX80. But is this big bruiser worth $50,400?

Nissan recently released the pricing for the new 2023 Armada and it sees a small increase over the 2022 version. Yes, it does have several new standard features, including Amazon Alexa built-in on upper-level trims, as well as LED fog lights, a universal garage opener, and a heated steering wheel. The updates to the Armada SUV don’t sound like much, but this big seven- or eight-passenger SUV was wholly redesigned for 2021 and still has the up-to-date tech and looks.

How much is a new 2023 Nissan Armada?

A new 2023 Nissan Armada S starts at $50,400. The upgraded SV and SL versions start at $54,950 and $58,370. The Platinum version starts at $66,720. A four-wheel drive system will add $3,000 to any trim level. Every Armada comes with Nissan’s 5.6-liter V8 that has 400 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque, which is enough to give it an 8,500-pound towing capacity.

The upper-level trims may be worth the upgrade

The Armada shares a lot in common with its cousin the Nissan Titan truck in that it’s big and packs in a lot of utility. It just doesn’t pack in the luxury you’d expect at $50,000, especially considering the 2023 Infiniti QX60 costs less, seats seven, and has a rich interior with leather and wood.  

Though the S is the base model and has a long list of standard features, the SV and SL versions may be worth the upgrades. While the S has basic cloth seats, the SV offers a leatherette or leather in the SL, and you have to upgrade to get heated seats, too, which seem to be standard on most $50,000 SUVs. The base Armada also skips the Amazon Alexa, wireless charging and the HomeLink garage door opener, as well as the remote engine start, which are all standard on the SUV.

The SL adds some extra goodies that many appreciate, such as an all-around monitor that can help when parking this big full-sized SUV that can weigh more than 6,000 pounds. It earns an average reliability rating from J.D. Power.

Is the Nissan Armada better than an Infiniti QX80?

The top-level trim of the Armada, the Platinum trim, adds a lot of the features that you get on its Infiniti mate. It gets quilted leather, heated and cooled seats, one-touch power folding rear seats, and 8.0-inch screens for middle-row passengers. Overall, it adds wood and leather trim that competes with the Infiniti.

The Infiniti QX80 adds goodies that could make it worth the upgrade, like a power liftgate, eight-way seats, or tri-zone temperature control. The big difference, however, is the quality of the materials and the overall design. The Infiniti is, simply, nicer. However, it starts at $72,700 and the fully-optioned four-wheel drive QX80 can top $87,000.
