The new Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 takes the lunacy and unhinged character of the 2018 Demon and adds more wheelie-inducing speed. However, unlike the previous iteration, Hades’ new high-horsepower factory drag car might be fast enough to outrun some blisteringly quick electric vehicles (EVs), like the Tesla Model S Plaid and the Audi RS e-tron GT. So how does the new Demon stack up in an apples-to-oranges speed comparison with today’s emissions-free luxury sports sedans

How fast is the Dodge Demon 170?

The 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 can cover a quarter-mile drag in 8.91 seconds at 151 mph (243 kilometers per hour). The Last Call model will also finish a sprint to 60 mph in just 1.66 seconds on a prepped surface with a one-foot rollout.

As a result, the new Demon 170 follows the list of its predecessor’s superlatives. It’s one of the fastest-accelerating road cars ever made, it’s been banned by the NHRA, and it’s the only current production car that will do a wheelie during a hard launch.

Which EVs could the new Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 outrun?

The new Demon isn’t alone regarding straight-line speed. Many EVs will also smash quarter-mile drags and sprints to 60 mph. However, Dodge’s automotive last word can outrun many of them, like the Tesla Model S Plaid, Audi e-tron GT, and Porsche Taycan Turbo S.

For instance, Car and Driver launched a Porsche Taycan Turbo S to 60 mph in just 2.4 seconds. While that is fiendishly fast for a heavy four-door sedan, it won’t keep pace with Dodge’s new E85-swilling Challenger SRT Demon 170.

How fast is a Tesla Plaid 0 to 60?

Tesla’s Model S Plaid is one of the quickest EVs on the market. Tesla says the Plaid will hit 60 mph in a blistering 1.99 seconds. Moreover, the Model S Plaid’s 1,020 horsepower is just five ponies shy of the new Demon with its 170-proof fuel mixture.

However, even with tri-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) and massive horsepower reserves, the Plaid can’t keep up with the straight-line performance of the final Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170.

What is the 0 to 60 mph of an Audi e-tron GT?

The Audi RS e-tron GT will hit 60 mph in around 2.9 seconds on its way to an 11.0-second quarter mile. That is fast enough to outrun a SRT Hellcat Redeye or a Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. However, it’s not quick enough to best the new Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170.

How much will the 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 cost?

Although Dodge will produce a limited run of around 3,300 copies of the new 2023 Dodge Challenge SRT Demon 170, its starting price point makes it a bargain compared to premium EV luxury sedans. Specifically, the Demon 170 will start at $100,361.

As a result, the Mopar halo car will undercut the Model S Plaid by around $9,629 and the Audi RS e-tron GT by about $45,034. Of course, these EV models are luxury performance sedans, and the Demon 170 is a wheel-standing purpose-built drag car.
