Watch this Dodge Challenger get destroyed by a Corvette in a street race– literally
A few names routinely come up pretty when you hear about street racing in the United States. The Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro, and, of course, the Dodge Challenger are common contenders. After all, these modern muscle car interpretations are the spiritual descendants of Detroit’s Telegraph Road racing scene. However, that doesn’t excuse the dangerous practice of street racing. It’s a lesson learned at a high cost for a couple of Corvette and Challenger owners in an ill-fated street race.
A C8 Chevrolet Corvette punched through the front end of a Dodge Challenger during a street race
I don’t have to tell you that a street race is a dangerous environment for everyone involved. Organized and governed racing (which is still dangerous) typically has emergency protocols in place in case of disaster. However, street racing can cause injury and property destruction without hope of an immediate response from emergency services. Moreover, illegal races lack the stewards necessary to control the event.
Tragically, that’s exactly what happened with a street race between an eighth-generation Chevrolet Corvette and a Jeep Cherokee SRT Trackhawk. A popular social media video shows a roofless Elkhart Lake Blue Metallic C8 Corvette leading the SRT Trackhawk. Moments later, however, the Corvette slams into a black, post-facelift Dodge Challenger.
The impact rips the Challenger’s front end clean off ahead of the front wheels. Understandably, the Challenger’s driver emerges from the muscle car visibly angry. Fortunately, he appeared unharmed. Further, and seemingly ridiculously, the Corvette also ran into the SRT Trackhawk. Tragically, considering the apparent extent of the damage, all three vehicles are certainly totaled.
Incidentally, the post is littered with some choice language in the comments section. Most of the commentary berates the Dodge Challenger driver for pulling out into the path of a speeding Corvette.
However, the real villain here is street racing itself. Racing is a thrilling activity. But it belongs on circuits, drag strips, and closed courses. Unfortunately, this is exactly what happens when it hits the streets. Check out the video in the social media post below!
