When Dodge unveiled the Mopar muscle car quantum leap of the high-horsepower Hellcat in 2015, it generated fanatics and haters alike. Still, whether you like the Challenger SRT Hellcat or not, it did a lot for the modern muscle car market, including breaking some records you may not have known. Here are some Dodge Challenger Hellcat records that may have flown under your radar.

Did the Dodge Challenger Hellcat break horsepower records?

The 2015 Challenger Hellcat broke records for the most powerful American road car ever when Dodge unveiled it. That record remained, and the newest iterations of the Hellcat, like the Redeye, have around 800 horsepower. Additionally, Car and Driver reports that the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, with its 707 horsepower, was less powerful than just six production cars at the time, and those had names like Pagani, Ferrari, and Bugatti.

Also, the Challenger Hellcat instantly stole the title of the most powerful muscle car ever. The closest contender at the time would have been the 2013 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. However, the 2013 and 2014 GT500’s 662 horsepower isn’t enough to contend with the Mopar’s muscle.

How big are the Challenger Hellcat’s brakes?

The 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat has 15.4-inch rotors with Brembo six-piston calipers. That made the Challenger Hellcat’s brakes the largest brakes ever in the Chrysler Group, including the track-going Vipers. However, it needs the stopping power, given its 4,488-lb curb weight.

How big is the Hellcat’s supercharger?

The Hellcat’s 6.2L V8 might be smaller in displacement than the naturally aspirated 6.4L in the SRT 392, but that’s not its not-so-secret weapon. Instead, the Dodge Challenger Hellcat packs one of the largest superchargers on the market at the time of release. The 2015 Hellcat has a 2.4L supercharger shoving air into its mighty heart. It’s even bigger than the comparable 2013 Ford Mustang GT500’s 2.3L Eaton supercharger.

How much does a Dodge Challenger Hellcat cost?

The Hellcat’s price tag is part of what shocked muscle car fans everywhere. When the 2015 model hit the market, Dodge demanded a starting price of $60,590. That made it one of the most affordable performance bargains on the market. After all, you would have had to pay over one million dollars to snag a Pagani Huayra with similar power (720 horsepower).

Is the Hellcat still a performance bargain?

Even today, the first Dodge Challenger Hellcats are performance bargains. According to Kelley Blue Book (KBB), you can expect a fair purchase price of $49,886 for a preowned example with 50,000 miles. While $50,000 may seem steep for a used car, very few vehicles can meet the original Hellcat’s performance credentials. For instance, the 2015 model could hit 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds on its way to an 11.7-second quarter mile.

A modern Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack Widebody has a starting price of $52,645. However, it’s quite a bit less powerful and slower than its supercharged elder. It’s tricky to top the Hellcat’s performance figures. Scroll down to the following article to read more about Mopar muscle cars!
