For 2020, Dodge will offer a limited edition 50th Anniversary Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Daytona Widebody, and we couldn’t be more excited. Especially because there will only be 501 units produced, just like the 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona that inspired it.

Pushing Performance

The 50th Anniversary Edition features a B5 Blue paint that’s Daytona-exclusive. That, and a unique Daytona rear stripe graphic treatment that matches the spoilers, are throwbacks to the 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona. It will also be available in Pitch Black, Triple Nickel, and White Knuckle paint too according to Car and Driver. The white models will feature a blue spoiler, a Daytona decal, and a Hellcat badge with a bright finish. Collectors are almost certain to focus on the B5 Blue version.

The Warp Speed wheels are 20-by-11-inches and have a special satin carbon finish. On the wheels are all-season 305/35ZR Pirelli performance tires for excellent traction. Three-season tires are also available as an option. There’s a unique “Daytona” decklid, too. The car also offers quality black Brembo brakes with six pistons at the front and four pistons at the rear.

Good brakes are necessary when you consider the power the limited-edition Daytona is packing. Thanks to a revised powertrain calibration, the 50th Anniversary Daytona gets an additional 10 horsepower above what the standard Charger SRT Hellcat offers. It puts out 717 horsepower with 650 lb-ft of torque, the same amount of torque as the standard Hellcat. The shift points have been moved up on the limited-edition Daytona to 6,100 RPM while in automatic mode.

Mopar Insiders reported that Tim Kuniskis, Head of Passenger Cars and Global Head of Alfa Romeo at FCA – North America said, “The Dodge brand continues to push the boundaries of performance with the most powerful and fastest mass-produced sedan in the world, the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody.”

He explained that the release was a recognition of the Dodge brand’s performance heritage. Dodge wanted to stay true to their roots by offering collectible, high-performance vehicles that defy trends and provide performance that you can’t find anywhere else.

The 1969 Charger Daytona

The original 1969 Charger Daytona was actually designed for competition in NASCAR. A prototype of the car held the record for being the first to achieve an average 200-plus mph lap speed for 17 years. 

Under the hood, the original has a 440-cubic-inch Magnum V8 that you could only get in Daytona and R/T models. It had a three-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission with an 8.75-inch rear differential according to MotorTrend.

The original Dodge Charger Daytonas had front bucket seats with headrests and a center console. There was a dash cluster which had a clock and tachometer along with a chrome floor shifter.

Only 501 units were produced to homologate the Daytona body per NASCAR regulations. NASCAR required no less than 500 units. Likewise, Dodge is only making 501 copies of the 2020 Dodge Charger Daytona 50th Anniversary Edition.

Dodge Charger Interior

On the inside of the special SRT Hellcat Widebody Daytona, you’ll find heated black performance seats done up in ventilated Nappa leather with Alcantara suede. The blue accent stitching on the seats is a nod to the original cars. The blue stitching appears in several places in the cabin.

There are contrasting blue and silver stitching accents on the flat-bottom steering wheel. That and the blue stitching that appears on the velour-bound floor mats are unique to the 50th Anniversary Edition Daytona. The console bezels and instrument panel are carbon fiber with a faux-suede header to finish the look.

A custom IP badge can be found on the passenger side of the sedan with Daytona and Hellcat logos to identify each car as vehicle X of 501.

The 50th Anniversary Dodge Charger SRT HELLCAT Daytona Widebody made its official debut on Saturday, August 17, 2019. It appeared during the Modern Street Hemi Shootout event which took place during the annual Woodward Dream Cruise in Pontiac, Michigan.

Dealer orders for all 2020 Dodge Charger models, including the Dodge Charger Daytona 50th Anniversary Edition, open up in the fall. The vehicles will arrive in Dodge/SRT dealerships in the early part of 2020.
