The hotly anticipated and controversial eighth-generation Dodge Charger is on its way. However, the new Charger will arrive without some of the things that made the previous two generations a favorite among American car buyers. What it will have, however, is the incipient Dodge Charger Banshee EV, perhaps the most powerful SRT Charger ever.

With well over 800 horsepower on tap, the upcoming Dodge Charger SRT Banshee could be the most potent factory Charger ever

The Dodge Charger is back. Those words should be enough to stir the spirits of Mopar fans everywhere. However, the Charger returns as an electric vehicle (EV) and a twin-turbo six-cylinder affair. That’s right; enthusiasts who want the Charger nameplate in 2024 or 2025 must shop sans HEMI V8.

However, the new, all-electric 2024 Dodge Charger has its merit. Chief among these, the new, range-topping Dodge Charger Banshee EV will ride on an 800-volt architecture and all-wheel drive (AWD). Uncharted territory for the Charger, indeed.

Consequently, this new-gen Dodge Charger Banshee EV will likely produce over 800 horsepower and wear an SRT badge. To our horsepower-fat muscle car market of the last decade, that doesn’t sound like much like a “stop the presses” figure. Hell, the wheel-standing Dodge Challenger SRT Demon and E85-swilling SRT Demon 170 produce 840 and 1,025 horsepower, respectively.

However, the Dodge Charger never received the SRT Demon treatment. As such, the highest output fans will find in a factory seventh-generation LD-platform Dodge Charger sedan is 807 horsepower.

We expect the upcoming Dodge Charger Banshee EV to produce well over 800 horsepower, almost certainly more than the previous generation, 807-horsepower Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody Jailbreak.

In fact, with the brand’s Direct Connection kits, it’s not unreasonable to expect the Banshee to hit four-figure HP figures at its most unhinged. Still, the most reassuring tidbit is the promise from Dodge that the Banshee will outperform the most recent Hellcats.
