Is the Dodge Durango Actually on Its Death Bed?
The rumor mills suggest that the Dodge Durango is being canceled, but we aren’t so sure about that. The 2021 Dodge Durango continues to be a popular model with SEMA concepts and special editions in high demand.
Is the Dodge Durango really being discontinued?
The current generation of the Dodge Durango will run through 2023, with no plans for a new model in 2024 yet. This caused the press to run wild, saying that the Durango was dead and the three-row SUV would be discontinued.
However, the notion that it will be discontinued hasn’t been confirmed. Still, people speculate that a new Dodge model will replace it. Some people think the Durango will be canceled because of the new Jeep Grand Cherokee L too.
However, the three-row Jeep isn’t a threat. Christian Meunier, Global Presiden of Jeep Brand, shared that the Durango isn’t being replaced by the Grand Cherokee L. They are totally separate SUVs, and the Durango will remain. They don’t see a lot of substitution between the two products moving forward.
The Durango still attracts SEMA builds and special editions
The SEMA show celebrates aftermarket companies with unique concept vehicles. It’s also used to gauge how well fans react to new ideas. So, if the Dodge Durango is at SEMA, this means Stellantis could still be interested in its potential.
However, the 2022 Mopar Dodge Durango is more than just a concept. You can order it in the first quarter of 2022. It serves as the 12th Mopar Edition model, and it will arrive in time for the division’s 85th anniversary.
Other special editions, like the Durango SRT Hellcat with 1,000 hp, sold out pretty quickly, showing that this muscular SUV is still incredibly popular. Its $80,995 MSRP didn’t slow fans down.
The Mopar Durango is powered by the 5.7-liter V8 Hemi and provides 360 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque. It includes AWD, the Plus Group, and Tow N Go Package. The package includes a limited-slip differential, SRT exhaust, SRT-spec active noise cancellation, and unique suspension tuning. Performance Pages digital timers and gauges are also included.
It rides on 20-inch wheels with Pirelli tires and includes Brembo brake calipers. They are available in DB black and White Knuckle. A blue accent strip and Mopar badge give it a unique look.
How is the Mopar Durango’s interior?
The interior of the 2022 Mopar Dodge Durango includes metal pedal covers, Mopar all-weather floor mats, leather and suede seats with embroidered Mopar badging, and an instrument-panel badge with a serialized build number.
Plus, you will get a metal certificate of authenticity and a rendering of the Durango by the Mopar design team. The 2022 Durango has an MSRP of $35,475, and upgrading to the Mopar edition costs $3,995.
This is a great deal, but you better move fast. Production is limited to 200 units in the United States and 50 for Canada. The order books will open in the first quarter of 2022, and deliveries are expected to begin in the summer of 2022.
