The Jaguar I-Pace, the automaker’s all-electric SUV, has now overtaken the Dodge Hornet on a top 10 list. However, the spot isn’t somewhere automakers want to be: the 10 vehicles with the highest U.S. market day supply.

“Market day supply” is the number of days it would take to sell the new units sitting on dealership lots if production completely stopped. Typically, you’d expect automakers to hit a healthy balance of market day supply, units for sale, and units sold. For instance, Toyota now has six of the fastest-selling vehicles in the U.S., with an average market day supply of 28 days.

Contrastingly, the I-Pace now has a 575-day market supply. This means if Jaguar stopped building new units, dealerships would need about a year and a half to sell the units already available to buyers. It’s only sold 26 units in the last 45 days. It seems like the ultra-luxury EV isn’t catching on as Jaguar hoped.

The Dodge Hornet held the title of slowest-selling car in the U.S. for a period of time. It’s not far behind the I-Pace, with a 550-day market supply. What’s more, the Hornet has 15,679 units available to buyers. The I-Pace only has 332 units for sale. These are obviously fairly different vehicles targeting different buyers, as the I-Pace is a luxury electric SUV starting at $72,000. The Hornet starts at $31,400. Obviously, neither automaker wants to clock that much lot sitting.

The Dodge Ram 2500 has the most units available to buyers currently, 47,611. While it’s on the slowest-selling cars list, the model has a 231-day market supply, which is less than half of the Hornet’s turnaround.

The Toyota Camry and Toyota RAV4 seem to have the strongest 45-day trailing sales of the fastest-selling cars in 2024 thus far. The Camry sold 45,770 units in the last 45 days and has a 23-day market supply. The RAV4 sold 61,943 units in the past 45 days and has a 31-day market supply. The Corolla is next.

Interestingly, the Land Rover Range Rover is the fastest-selling car in the U.S. now, with only a 20-day market supply. However, it only has 877 units up for grabs and has sold 2006 units in the last 45 days.

We reported earlier this year that new cars are more unaffordable for most Americans than ever. In May 2024, the average car payment in the U.S. was more than $700. Some sources say that the number will continue to climb.
