In February 2021, Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis announced the Hellcat V8’s days were numbered. It has been nearly four years of one “final” edition after another. But we truly are approaching the end here. Unless Stellantis announces something wild (like the Hellcat-powered Wrangler we never got), the Dodge Durango will be the final model powered by this supercharged monster. You can order one in 2025, but it will set you back $100k.

To be blunt, the long slow death of Chrysler Corporation’s V8 vehicles has been driven by logistics. After the Stellantis merger (which merged Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Peugeot Group), the new company decided to take both its Windsor Assembly and Bramptom Assembly plants offline and retool them for the next generation of hybrid and electric vehicles. These plants made every Chrysler Corporation car remaining, from the 300 to the Charger to the Challenger.

That is why the company announced limited-run special editions of all the above for the 2022 and 2023 model year, but you can’t order a new one starting in 2024. Dealerships have spent the last several months marking up the remaining inventory.

Then Ram announced its new 2025 half-ton will be powered by a V6 or a turbocharged I6 engine. The truck replacing the Ram 1500 TRX for the 2025 model year is the RHO. It’s 3.0-liter “Hurricane” I6 makes 540 horsepower.

But Stellantis still builds Hellcat engines. They are currently all assembled in Saltillo, Mexico. You can buy one in a crate. And for the 2025 model year at least, you’ll be able to order one in a Dodge Durango.

Dodge builds its Durango SUV in Detroit city limits, at the Jefferson North Assembly Plant, alongside the Jeep Grand Cherokee. And while there’s no Cherokee Trackhawk currently available, the team at Jefferson North will still drop a Hellcat in a Durango.

The current generation of the Dodge Durango has been around since 2011. That makes it ten years older than the Grand Cherokee L. For 2025, it starts at $41k, making it the top Dodge. (The Italian-built Dodge Hornet starts just above $33k). You can get a Durango with a Hellcat for $97,590. The limited edition, last call, Durango “Silver Bullet” is $113,325. That’s a $70k gamble that this final final edition will be collectible.

The Durango Silver Bullet is finished in Triple Nickel with a satin black hood, which I have to say is a nice touch. It gets the “Dodge” logo in back, has “Lights Out” black rims and red Nappa leather seats.

The Jefferson North plant was already taken offline to be retooled and modernized in 2022. So there’s actually no reason it couldn’t keep churning out Durangos–and Hellcat versions at that–for years to come. We could even see a return of some manner of Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. I honestly expect we’ll have a Hurricane I6 Durango for 2026 instead. But you never know.
