Another name for a classic car is returning from the grave. The Dodge Stealth is being resurrected, only it won’t live on in the form of a car. Instead, it’s coming back as an SUV and I had to guess, it might be electric.

The Dodge Stealth is returning as an SUV

Recently, plenty of iconic nameplates for cars and SUVs have been used for new vehicles. For example, the Ford Maverick is now a compact truck, the Chevrolet TrailBlazer is a compact SUV, and the Jeep Renegade is a stand-alone SUV instead of a Wrangler option.

Now the Dodge Stealth is returning as an SUV instead of a car. It’s also slated to replace the family-hauling Dodge Durango

However, don’t get too excited just yet. The ancient Dodge Durango is expected to hang around until 2027. So, it will be a few years before the new Stealth comes to market.

The original Stealth was a two-door car that lasted from 1991 to 1991. It was basically a rebadged Mitsubishi 3000GT. The cars were nearly identical, but Chrysler slightly tweaked the exterior styling.

It wasn’t very popular, which explains the short lifespan. However, I bet that the twin-turbocharged and intercooled 24-valve 3.0-liter V6 engine with 300 hp was tons of fun.

The new Dodge Stealth is expected to be a slightly smaller sport-utility vehicle. Production is expected to start in 2027 at the Windsor plant in Canada.

Rumors suggest that the Stealth will have five seats and it will ride on the STLA large architecture platform. The platform is designed to support combustion engines and electric powertrain options.

At first, it wasn’t supposed to replace the Durango. But Strallants shared that it had designs for a larger SUV with the Durango badge planned with production in Michigan. Those plans were scrapped as Stellantis prepares a leaner SUV lineup.

Stay tuned for updates as new information about the Stealth is released.
