Does Honda Have an Electric Car?
When you hear the word “Honda” you immediately think of reliable cars and vans, like the Civic or the Odyssey. Honda’s done a great job of making cars that are affordable to buy, and own. But one thing Honda hasn’t done yet is make an electric car. So far, the closest thing to an electric car that Honda makes is the Accord Hybrid, which is still a gas-powered car with a hybrid booster. That car was totally redesigned for 2023.
What is the Honda Accord Hybrid?
For 2023 Honda redesigned the Accord and it’s now in its 11th generation. The Honda Accord Hybrid is the only electrified car Honda sells, but it does make hybrid versions of the CR-V and HR-V SUVs. The new car is bigger in every dimension, and it designed the new car around the hybrid booster. The new car has a large table-sized 12.3-inch screen on top trims, or a 7-inch screen on EX and LX models. It also comes with next-gen airbags, as well as standard knee and rear passenger side impact bags.
The new car comes with a huge list of upgrades. Nearly every piece is new in the car, and that means the 1.5-liter turbocharged engine and continuously variable transmission are updated, too. But the Accord Hybrid gets a new 2-liter four-cylinder and two-motor hybrid system that makes a total of 204 horsepower, or 12 more than the gas version of the Accord does.
Overall, Honda says, hybridized cars and SUVs make up about 50% of the company’s sales.
How much does a Honda Accord Hybrid cost?
You can order the hybrid drive on a 2023 Honda Accord Hybrid in Sport, EX-L, Sport-L and Touring packages. The base non-hybrid LX starts at $27,295. The least expensive Hybrid, however, is the EX-L Hybrid, which starts at $33,540. The Sport-L Hybrid adds 19-inch wheels and some styling cues and starts at $33,875.
The Touring, however, is the top version and comes with a heads-up display, wireless charging, premium sound and of course leather everywhere. It starts at $37,890.
Will there be a Honda electric car soon?
Honda has teamed up with General Motors to produce the Prologue SUV. It’s not uncommon for manufacturers to collaborate to make cars and put different names on different vehicles for brands. The Chevy Silverado is the same truck as the GMC Sierra, for example. But as the new electric world converges in the automotive space, manufacturers are now sharing the engineering duty to make new EV platforms. Honda and GM teamed up on the Ultium electric vehicle platform, and that means that many of the new vehicles from the two could look the same, even the Blazer EV and Honda Prologue SUVs.
The Honda Design Studio in Los Angeles did the design fo the Prologue. Honda calls the design “Neo-Rugged,” and in somewhat echoes the new design of the 2023 CR-V, but it’s eight inches longer and five inches wider. Per Honda, The Prologue will be available in an exclusive North Shore Pearl exterior color which was inspired from the natural beauty and colors near Lake Tahoe in California. But, there are no firm plans to make electric cars, for now.
