Does the New Ford F-150 Raptor Have a Manual Transmission?
Performance pickup trucks are popular among many buyers—most people like them for their can-do attitude, off-road performance, and on-road luxury. A model like the new Ford F-150 Raptor is costly, but it’s almost always worth it to the regular Raptor buyer. Drivers who crave speed, performance, and everything else the Raptor offers usually want complete control. We’re talking about using a manual transmission. Does the new Ford F-150 Raptor have a manual transmission?
New Ford F-150 Raptor transmission
Buying the latest version of the Ford F-150 Raptor can be challenging. It’s an excellent model in all its forms, so choosing the perfect variant is daunting. However, those who simply want a manual transmission for their new F-150 performance model should search elsewhere. For the 2023 model year, there is no manual transmission offered with the Ford F-150 Raptor. In fact, past 2008, you can’t find a single F-150 model that still uses a manual transmission.
According to Edmunds, the new F-150 Raptor uses a high-output turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Each Raptor only comes with four-wheel drive, while other F-150s can use rear- or four-wheel drive. The base Raptor engine produces 450 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque. Alternatively, the upgraded new Raptor R model uses a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 good for 700 hp and 640 lb-ft. The Raptor R uses the same 10-speed automatic transmission and is only worth buying for those looking to max out their speedometer.
Raptor vs. Raptor R
Buying a standard 2023 Ford F-150 Raptor costs $76,775. In addition to basic amenities provided in lower F-150 trims, the off-road model gains standard four-wheel drive, low-range gearing, 17-inch alloy wheels, 35-inch all-terrain tires, a 36-gallon gas tank, a Raptor off-roading suspension with adaptive Fox shock absorbers, Raptor fender flares and grille, and six upfitter switches.
Upgrading to the Raptor R changes the pickup quite a bit. Most notably, the engine is swapped for a more potent supercharged V8, and it gets 37-inch tires that are usually optional on the standard Raptor. Other than that, the Raptor R gets the same equipment as one without the R for $109,145. It’s a costly upgrade to get the second-most powerful truck engine available from the factory. Only the Ram TRX produces more horsepower than the Ford F-150 Raptor R.
Do any new trucks have a manual transmission?
According to a previous report by MotorBiscuit, only two pickups still come with a manual transmission straight from the factory. First, the 2022 Toyota Tacoma still has an optional manual transmission. Opting for it gets you the more powerful 278 horsepower 3.5-liter V6 engine, which sweetens the deal. If you want a six-speed manual Tacoma, you’ll need the four-wheel-drive TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, or TRD Pro.
The only other pickup truck you can buy new in 2022 with a manual transmission is the 2022 Jeep Gladiator. It uses a six-speed manual transmission paired with a 3.6-liter V6 engine that makes 285 horsepower. Unlike the Tacoma, the Gladiator comes standard with a manual gear shifter on most trim levels. However, an eight-speed manual is available for buyers who choose the diesel engine.
Is the New Ford F-150 Raptor a manual?
In conclusion, the new Ford F-150 Raptor and Raptor R do not use a manual transmission. Regardless of which version of the Raptor you choose, it’ll come with a standard 10-speed automatic transmission. However, both versions of the Raptor are well-equipped and offer plenty of horsepower for the right price. Additionally, for buyers who are set on a manual pickup, the Toyota Tacoma and Jeep Gladiator are available from the factory with a stick-shift setup. Off-roading is just as possible as in the Raptor, but don’t expect to get 700 horses out of them.
