The original Chevrolet Blazer was released in the early 80s, but its most upscale version, the TrailBlazer, was the most popular because of its premium features. This trim was later offered as its own model from 2001 to 2008. Today, you can find a used TrailBlazer for around $5-10k.

The modern Chevy Blazer looks much different compared to its predecessor. It’s now a midsize SUV, so there’s less space than before. Still, the interior is stylish and gives drivers a comfortable ride. It also has far more technology offerings, but does it include Android Auto?

What tech is included in the Chevrolet Blazer?

The Blazer is available in four trim levels. Each one, including the base model, has a lot of nice technical features. Both Android and Apple iPhones are compatible with the car’s infotainment system. It comes with a large 8-inch touchscreen that has nice graphics and user-friendly controls. 

Four USB ports, Bluetooth, push-button start, and keyless entry are also included on the base trim. The higher trims have a few more attractive features. These include a premium audio system, built-in navigation, extra USB ports, and a Wi-fi hotspot. The available ambient lighting can even recognize different drivers and adjust itself for their needs.

Interior quality

The standard Blazer comes with cloth seats, a leather steering wheel, and a manually adjustable driver’s seat. For drivers who want a little more luxury, leather seating is an option. These seats also come with microsuede inserts. The front and outboard rear seats can also be heated and ventilated in upper trim levels.

The leather seats paired with the ambient lighting definitely creates an upscale experience. Despite this, some feel that the Blazer still looks cheap on the inside. The cabin is filled with hard plastics that many drivers find unappealing. Some have also noted that there’s not enough headspace for taller drivers because of the low roof.

Cargo management technology

The Blazer has already gotten some flack from reviewers for its subpar cargo capacity. With the second-row seats folded down, you only get 64.2 cubic feet of storage space. However, a cargo management feature is available to make things easier.

Using a cargo fence and rail system, items are kept organized and secure despite the limited space. These can be installed behind the Blazer’s second row. A power liftgate is available on certain trims for easier loading and unloading. The glovebox can also be locked electronically, so it’s perfect for keeping valuable items safe.

Safety features

The Blazer’s base safety features are slightly limited. Only a standard backup camera and rear-seat reminder are included. Fortunately, your options improve in higher trims.

Many advanced safety features are available. Emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitors, parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, and lane assistance can all be found on more expensive models. There are also some camera upgrades, like surround view and an additional monitor for the rearview mirror.

How similar SUVs compare

The Blazer is a great value for SUV shoppers, but its rivals deliver more standard features. The Honda Passport, also revamped for this year, has more safety functions included in the base trim. The small cargo space is also a problem, especially for consumers with large families. Competitors like the Hyundai Santa Fe or Ford Edge may be a better option.

The base Blazer definitely isn’t as upscale as some other SUVs. Given all of its standard technology, including Android Auto, its price tag of just under $30k is reasonable. Besides a few seating upgrades, you won’t miss much tech in the higher trims. However, some may be disappointed with the lack of advanced safety features.
