Does the Chevrolet Silverado Feature Android Auto?
The Chevy Silverado is one of the best selling trucks in America. Americans love their Silverado due to its capable and practical features that make it a great work truck. However, the Silverado is not a truck without smart or comfort features, either. Here’s everything you need to know about the tech that’s offered by the Silverado.
The Silverado’s standard features
As U.S. News reported, every Silverado comes standard with a 7-inch touchscreen display that is compatible with Android Auto as well as Apple CarPlay. In addition to that, the Silverado comes standard with a two-speaker stereo system, a USB port, Bluetooth support, as well as a teen driving system that makes the Silverado a safe truck for teens to learn the road with.
According to U.S. News, the infotainment system of the Silverado is very intuitive and easy to use. On top of that, the decently sized 7-inch touchscreen display makes it easy for the driver or passenger to use Android Auto and the other features in the truck. That said, because the Silverado is a big, full-size truck, the interior is very spacious as well. While that may be a good thing, U.S. News does say that it could be a chore to reach over and actually touch the Silverado’s touchscreen display.
The Silverado’s optional features
The standard Silverado comes with Android Auto, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t options to make the Silverado more high tech. In terms of screens, U.S. News says that Chevy offers several other smart screen options for the Silverado. For example, a 4.2-inch driver information display, an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, an 8-inch touchscreen display, and a head-up display system are all options on the Silverado.
Furthermore, Chevy is also offering smart optional features such as wireless charging, a WiFi hotspot, and keyless entry on the Silverado. In terms of upgrades of existing features, the Silverado can also come equipped with a six-speaker stereo system, a seven-speaker Bose stereo system, satellite radio, HD radio, as well as several more USB ports.
CNET mentioned that these optional infotainment features looked more modern and were faster than the infotainment system of the older model years of the Silverado. That said, CNET then went on to say that while the infotainment features on the Silverado were great, they weren’t as impressive as what the Ram 1500 offers.
The Silverado’s safety features
Smart features in a truck also mean smart safety features, and according to U.S. News, the Silverado has plenty of optional smart safety features. These smart features can all be managed through whichever touchscreen display is installed on the Silverado, and they allow the Silverado to become one of the safer trucks on the market.
Some of these smart safety features include front and rear parking sensors, forward collision warning, a pedestrian detection system, and a 360-degree camera system. On top of that, Chevy also offers a safety alert seat on the Silverado, and that is a unique smart feature.
According to General Motors, the parent company of Chevy and the designer of that safety alert seat, the seat will create vibrations in itself to warn the driver that a collision is likely. By doing this, the seat can more easily warn a driver about that incoming danger without forcing the driver to look at a screen to see that a collision is coming.
Other smart safety features that the Silverado offers include automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, and lane departure warning. That said, despite all these smart safety features that the Silverado has, notably, adaptive cruise control is not one of them. But the Silverado does have an optional cruise control system.
