The 2020 Chevrolet Silverado has powerful engine options that make it best-in-class for towing capacity, which is increased to 13,400 pounds on this model year. With eight trims and a number of package options to pick from, the truck provides a lot of choices for buyers. There are five powertrains to select from and three different bed size options.

In addition to its towing abilities, the 2020 Silverado has the option of a new turbodiesel six-cylinder engine, which offers the best gas mileage of the full-size pickup class. With all of these options and capabilities, what are the pros and cons of riding in the interior of the Silverado?

Pros of the Silverado’s interior

Handling and ride quality are both good but not stellar. It doesn’t have the feel of a huge truck, but it can be tough to park in small spaces. Kelley Blue Book says the 2020 Silverado “drives smaller than it is, with excellent ride quality.” Also, U.S. News & World Report says the “ride quality is good, but it falls behind the luxury-like experience of some rival trucks like the Ram 1500.”

The Silverado does have plenty of room for passengers. It can seat between three and six people: three in the regular cab and six in the double cab and crew cab models. U.S. News & World Report calls the front seats “supportive and comfortable” and says the “cabin feels roomy overall.” In higher trims in the double cab and crew cab, front buck seats are an option with a center console between them. The regular cab comes with only a bench seat for three.

For buyers who select the largest cab size, the crew cab models have plenty of space in their second row. U.S. News & World Report describes the Silverado crew cab as having a “huge amount of rear legroom.” It provides 43.5 inches of legroom for passengers in the rear seats. The other cab options aren’t as generous though. Three passengers can fit in the rear seat of the double cab, but it can be tight to get into those seats because the rear doors are half-sized.

Every trim comes standard with a touchscreen infotainment system. All Silverados include either a seven-inch or eight-inch Chevrolet Infotainment 3 system. The system has large buttons and is easy to use. It includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Edmunds describes the infotainment system as “attractive and easy to use.”

Cons of the Silverado’s interior

For such a powerful and versatile truck, the interior design is the one big negative. Edmunds feels the design of the cabin looks a bit “dated” and says the “quality of some cabin materials is subpar.” Edmunds goes on, saying “the cabin design looks like it came from 2010 rather than 2020.” U.S. News & World Report calls the interior quality “fine.” Lower trims include hard plastics, while higher trims offer nicer materials like leather.

U.S. News & World Report says the “overall ambiance isn’t as luxurious as what you’ll find in comparably priced Ford F-150s and Ram 1500s.” One small issue with the interior design is that the useful buttons and knobs located on the right side of the dashboard can be a bit far for the driver to reach. On the plus side, Kelley Blue Book points out that the “Silverado had already earned a reputation for its quiet cabins; as far as we can tell, this new generation is even quieter.”

Does it have a nice interior?

The verdict is that the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado interior is nice enough. It has good handling and comfortable seats. Crew cabs have generous rear-seat legroom, and all trims have a good infotainment system. However, the finishes are not as luxurious as some competitors. U.S. News & World Report ranks the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado as their number three full-size pickup truck but says the Silverado’s “so-so interior keeps it from the top of the class.”
