Does the Chevrolet Trax Have Android Auto?
If you’re ready to buy a good subcompact SUV, you may have considered taking a test drive in a 2020 Chevrolet Trax. You’ll want to evaluate everything from fuel economy to ride handling and cargo. One feature that many buyers have at the top of their must-have lists is connectivity.
Hands-free pairing is more of a necessity than it is a luxury. Drivers today need to be able to navigate, communicate, and stay informed all without averting their eyes from the road ahead or hands from the wheel. You may be wondering if Android Auto is a standard or available option for the Chevy Trax. We dove into the specs and reviews of this year’s model to find out.
The critics can be harsh
Many of the reviews of the Chevy Trax aren’t supportive or overwhelmingly favorable. In fact, we found a few citing an underperforming engine configuration, marginal ride, and less than stellar interior quality. There are some hefty competitors in its class, so the bar is set high.
Honda’s HR-V is said to have more room. The Mazda CX-3 is mentioned as having the most impressive engine power, making one of the most fun to drive in this class. Even the less flashy, Toyota C-HR, boasts a longer list of standard driver aids than the Chevy Trax.
But, it does score top safety ratings with both the IIHS and the NHTSA. What we did notice is that many experts do give the 2020 Chevrolet Trax credit as it boasts excellence in one consumer-important category — the intuitive and user-friendly infotainment system.
What’s new for the Chevrolet Trax in 2020?
The Chevy Trax is part of the first generation introduced in 2015. There aren’t a ton of changes outside the end of the Midnight Edition package. It continues to offer an appealing amount of passenger space, for its subcompact size. Plus, there’s plenty of features for the price tag.
You’ll have your choice of three trim preferences and levels but will enjoy the 1.4L four-cylinder engine for all of them. But, what about the tech and capability to pair with your Android device?
Standard infotainment and connectivity
You will be happy to learn that even the base level Trax LS comes fully integrated with Android Auto connectivity. It’s also compatible with Apple devices, as it has Apple CarPlay pairing, too. You’ll have 4G LTE connection and a Wi-Fi hotspot, along with two USB ports, a seven-inch touchscreen, and a six-speaker sound system.
What can you do with Android Auto connectivity?
Having the ability to connect your phone and devices to your Chevy Trax is a game-changing technology. Once paired, your Android apps will show up on your touchscreen, and everything is connected.
Use voice command to answer and make calls, send texts, and do it all hands-free. You’ll have access to the Google Assistant, too, to help you play your favorite songs or check the weather forecast for your morning commute. Use your Android device to tap into Google Maps and Waze, for turn by turn directions and navigation on your touchscreen.
The Chevrolet Trax may not top all the critics’ recommendation lists, but it definitely doesn’t fall short on tech and features for the price. It may not be the roomiest or offer the most impressive engine configurations. But it comes ready to connect.
It doesn’t have the hefty roster of standard driver assistance features that some of its competitors offer. However, it does have everything you need to safely stay in touch, heading in the right direction, and in the know.
If you’re considering a Trax for your driveway, you’ll know you have complete connectivity options, including the Android Auto platform.
