Chevy is one of America’s most beloved automaker, and it’s earned that love by making some great cars. The Chevy Malibu is one of those cars, and while it’s not as big and famous as the Chevy Silverado is, it’s still a popular car. Here’s a look at what’s inside the Malibu.

The Chevy Malibu’s standard features

Starting at a $22,000 price tag, the Malibu is Chevy’s midsize sedan offering for American customers. Despite being an affordable car, it does sport a couple of great standard features. According to U.S. News, one of those standard features includes an 8-inch touch screen display that’s part of the Malibu’s infotainment system. 

The Malibu’s infotainment system is also totally compatible with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Bluetooth. In addition, the Malibu’s infotainment system also includes a six-speaker stereo system as well as high-tech convenience features such as proximity keyless entry.

That said, U.S. News and other car reviewers report that the majority of the Malibu’s interior leaves a lot to be desired. The Malibu’s interior didn’t impress U.S. news and part of the reason why was because Chevy didn’t use good materials.

Additionally, while the Malibu’s touch screen is a good size, not all car reviewers agreed on its quality. For example, CNET says that it was easy to use but Edmunds says that the touch screen looks worse than its competition’s.

The Chevy Malibu’s optional features

Chevy offers customers the option to upgrade the interior of the Malibu a lot. The Malibu’s 8-inch touch screen can have a navigational system attached to it and it can also have another 8-inch digital driver information display added onto it. On top of that, Malibu owners can upgrade their stereo system to a nine-speaker stereo and that stereo can be hooked up to an optional satellite radio.

Furthermore, Chevy offers a lot of comfort and convenience features for the Malibu. These optional features, according to U.S. News, includes a dual-zone automatic climate control system, a remote start system, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a sunroof, two USB ports, a household-styled power outlet, a WiFi hotspot, and wireless device charging capability. 

Additionally, for families and new drivers, Chevy also offers a teen driver system that’ll help parents keep their kids safe when they’re learning to drive a car. Chevy’s teen driver system allows parents to set speed and volume limits as well as to monitor their kid’s driving performance, according to U.S. News.

Smart safety features

While the Malibu has a good standard package of features, what’s not standard are smart safety features. According to U.S. News, Chevy does not offer any standard smart safety features whatsoever. That said, at the very least, Chevy does offer safety features such as anti-lock brakes and electronic stability control as standard.

If you want to equip your Malibu with any smart safety features, then you’ll have to add those options on. But, at the very least, Chevy does offer a lot of options in terms of smart safety features. 

U.S. News says that the Malibu can be equipped with: adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, a pedestrian detection system, blind spot monitoring, rear parking sensors and a rear cross traffic alert system, automatic parking assist, and automatic high-beam headlights among other things.

While this total lack of standard smart safety features is the complete opposite of what Chevy’s competitors, such as Toyota, have in their cars, the Malibu is still a pretty safe sedan. U.S. News says that the Malibu got an 8.9 out of 10 for its safety when everything is accounted for.
