To call something the Raptor, then it has to be cool. It’s a name taken from one of the most famous dinosaurs. So, does the Ford Raptor live up to its name? While it’s a little subjective to compare a truck to a dinosaur, it at least has to be tough, powerful, smart, and sleek.

How Does The Ford Raptor Compare?

The Ford Raptor is one of the higher-end F-150 trim options that’s marketed for off-roading capabilities. This makes sense, as the Raptor is about half a foot wider and about four inches taller than the standard F-150. 

But is all that extra size worth the price? For a truck that starts around $53k, there better be some advanced bells and whistles that make it worth the price. 

Power 

Despite being massive and weighing around 5,700 pounds, the Ford Raptor has the power to go fast. It accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in about 5.3 seconds. Not many larger vehicles can do that. This is thanks to its V6 engine that provides up to 450 HP and 510 lb-feet of torque. 

This gigantic Ford looks like a beefy truck, not a sports car, but can still provide that exciting fast and sporty feeling. 

On that note, we feel that it’s important to mention that the Raptor is also quiet. At highway speeds and while off-roading, the cabin is beautiful and silent. So, like a predator, this truck is fast and sneaky. 

Technology 

Similar to an advanced hunter with total control of its body, you can easily control exactly how your Ford Raptor moves. It has a 360 camera system that allows you to see where exactly each of your tires is going to go.

The Trail Control technology feature also helps you navigate trails safely by automatically adjusting your speed and braking. It’s mostly a low traction cruise control system that sends torque to and stops each wheel based on changing conditions. 

The Off-Road Fox Live Valve Shoxs provide continuously variable compression dampening for a smooth, comfortable ride on any terrain.

Off-Roading Abilities 

Once again, the size of this truck does not impede its function. Its weight doesn’t slow it down in the dirt, mud, or gravel. Also, its ample wheelbase and tires distribute the weight of the truck nicely for a comfortable and capable ride down the beaten track.

The 14-inch ground clearance is high for climbing over obstacles as well. The bead-lock tires provide ample pressure for a secure grip for rock crawling too.

The reinforced frame and skid plates offer safety and protection if an accident occurs. 

The Raptor Draw Backs

We keep coming back to the fact that the Raptor is significant in size, and that’s true of all models. They can fit six adults comfortably. That being said, this truck isn’t very friendly in the city. It’s tough to get in and out of narrow areas if you want a truck that’s convenient to park consider smaller options.

Also, like a dinosaur, this Raptor is hangry. It gets 15 mpg in the city and 18 mpg on the highway. 

So, yes, the Ford Raptor does live up to its name. Like the dinosaur, it’s powerful, smart, sneaky, and hungry.
