Does the GMC Sierra Have Android Auto?
The GMC Sierra is a contender in the truck market, boasting General Motors’ performance capabilities and GMC’s well-known, upscale designs. But today’s truck makers must do more than ever to compete, as more and more consumers expect improved features in their truck. How does the GMC Sierra compete when it comes to technology? How much technology can you find in the GMC Sierra? Does it come with Android Auto?
Does the GMC Sierra come with Android Auto?
The simple answer is yes, the GMC Sierra does come with Android Auto compatibility. But you can’t get it on all Sierra model years. According to Android’s official website, Android Auto is compatible with GMC Sierras model years 2016 and above.
However, both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility alongside GMC’s infotainment system come standard on all new 2019 and 2020 GMC Sierras. Though that’s not the only tech feature you can find in the Sierra, Android Auto has become a powerful tool for drivers on the go.
According to GMC Life, Android Auto offers hands-free capability through your Android smartphone and the GMC Sierra. “Android Auto enables Android smartphone users to access certain apps and functions via the vehicle’s infotainment system touchscreen or Android Auto voice commands.” This tech allows you to send messages, search for destinations, find a different route, and more via GMC’s infotainment system.
Android Auto allows you to utilize programs and functions you may already use on your smartphone, from the comfort and convenience of your truck. It allows you to view appointments, weather conditions, and live traffic information on your Sierra’s infotainment screen.
You can also listen to your favorite music, download third-party apps, and access all the functions your smartphone can normally perform. And you can use speech technology to access almost every function. Your smartphone and infotainment system seamlessly connect to each other via Bluetooth once you enter the truck.
What other technology is featured in the GMC Sierra?
In order to keep up with the top competition in the truck segment, automakers are putting more and more technology into their lineups. GMC is no different, adding more tech into the Sierra than ever before. According to the Road Show by CNET, the new 2020 GMC Sierra 1500 is getting a variety of improvements, including more technology.
All 2020 GMC Sierras come standard with a “7-inch touch screen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto integration, Bluetooth pairing, and a USB port,” according to Kelley Blue Book. Wi-Fi hotspot capabilities, an 8-inch touch screen, advanced navigation, and satellite radio are available on higher trims. You can also take advantage of an available wireless charging pad.
Safety and driver-assist options on the Sierra include lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection. Available safety tech options include GMC’s Enhanced ProGrade Trailering system, featuring 15 cameras that surround the truck to provide a “see-through” effect of your surroundings.
This also comes with an available in-vehicle trailer app that allows you to customize your cargo and towing needs. On upper trims of the Sierra, camera-based adaptive cruise control is available that can bring your truck to a complete stop when traffic slows.
As expected with the Denali variant, even the tech gets some serious upgrades. According to GMC, the 2020 Sierra Denali “can project key information on the windshield, with the introduction of the segment’s first available multicolor 15-inch diagonal Head-Up Display.” This Head-Up Display can show your GMC Sierra‘s speedometer, tachometer, phone settings, audio, navigation. It can also produce images of active safety alerts like forward-collision and lane-departure.
