The Jeep brand is among Dodge, Ram, Fiat, and Chrysler under the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles name. Jeep backs some popular cars like the Jeep Grand Cherokee, the Jeep Wrangler, and the Jeep Renegade. Some of these, like the Jeep Wrangler, can be a little less than reliable.

All new cars come with a factory warranty. In fact, that is one of the reasons buying a new car can be so appealing. But the Jeep warranty is definitely in the bottom. According the this list of warranties, Jeep’s warranty comes in lower than every other brand in Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.

A closer look at the Jeep warranty

The Jeep warranty covers new cars with a similar 3 year, 36,000 mile comprehensive warranty package as a number of others including the rest of the Fiat Chrysler group. This warranty covers most factory parts for reason other than normal wear and tear.

Most Jeep fans are familiar with Mopar accessories. If you upgrade or customize your Jeep with Mopar accessories, the parts are covered under the Mopar Warranty. The limitations for this coverage vary by accessory. For example, brake pads, rotors, clutch discs and wiper blades are all covered for only 1 year, 12,000 miles. While this accessory warranty may seem cool, be wary of the limited coverage.

What about the powertrain coverage?

Jeep’s powertrain warranty covers the cost and labor of parts and components for your engine, axle, transmission, and transaxle parts for every drivetrain option Jeep offers.

These are the heart and soul of your Jeep and it can’t run without them. This warranty is good for 5 years, 60,000 miles, which is the same as others like Honda or Toyota.

Compared to the Chrysler warranty, however, Jeep falls short. Chrysler’s powertrain warranty coverage lasts 5 years, 100,000 miles. You’d think that with its powertrain reputation, Jeep of all brands would provide powertrain coverage for at least as long as other big names in the Fiat Chrysler Automotive group.

What else is covered?

Jeep also offers 5 year, 100,000 mile corrosion coverage. This isn’t so bad, but when you compare it to Honda, Ford, Nissan, Toyota, and Mazda, who all offer 5 year, unlimited mileage corrosion warranties, you start to wonder.

Jeeps are designed for exploration and high mile road trips. They were born and bred for taking on snow and sand and everything in between, right? I don’t know about you, but I’d feel better in a Jeep with a corrosion warranty that provided for unlimited miles within that 5 year range.

The roadside assistance coverage offered by Jeep’s warranty package is 5 years, 60,000 miles. This is actually better than, Honda, Nissan, Subaru, Toyota, and Mazda. But when compared to the other Fiat Chrysler warranties, Jeep is once again at the bottom.

How does it compare?

Jeep’s warranty isn’t the worst of all. In fact it’s better than some pretty big names like Nissan and Mazda. But it is at the very bottom compared to all the other brands associated with Fiat Chrysler Automotives.

The place where it really disappoints is that your Jeep Wrangler won’t be covered for damage caused by ocean spray when you’re rolling down the seawall. That Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk isn’t covered for corrosion caused by sandy trails or snow. And while that is a bummer, it’s definitely nice to know that compared to others Jeep’s warranty isn’t too bad.
