At first glance, the Kia Sorento compares in price to compact SUVs such as the RAV4 and Honda CR-V. However, it lacks in fuel economy by only averaging 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway.

The Kia Sorento also comes with quite a bit of power and offers two different engine options. The base model comes with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with an output of 185 horsepower and 178 pound-feet torque. 

Upgraded trims such as the Kia Sorento S V6, EX, and SX utilize a 3.2-liter V6 engine with an output of 290 horsepower and 252 pound-foot torque. This creates a powerful mid-sized SUV that’s got ample acceleration. 

Plus, Kia Sorento models are available in front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive so you can choose the best option to suit your needs. While considering your options, be sure to check out towing capacities. This mid-sized SUV can tow between 2k to 5k lb. 

Kia Sorento Off-Roading Specs 

Does having enough power to tow smaller campers and trailers enable the Kia Sorento to get you where you need to go with these items? Maybe. The Kia Sorento doesn’t have four-wheel drive options, which would be better for off-roading. 

However, the Kia Sorento does have a competitive 7.3” of ground clearance and sits on 17” inch alloy wheels. This tire size is pretty competitive for off-roading, but higher trim options have 19” alloy wheels available. 

The Kia Sorento also has an approach angle of 16.9 degrees and a departure angle of 21.0 degrees. So, while this isn’t an off-roading beast like a Ranger or jacked truck, the Kia Sorento should be able to hold it’s own down dirt roads and in other challenging terrains. 

If you do go off-roading in the Kia Sorento, you’ll be comfortable. The front suspension has MacPherson struts, coil springs, and a stabilizer bar to maintain a smooth ride over bumps. The rear suspension also includes a multi-link stabilizer bar and dual-flow dampers.

At the end of the day, the Kia Sorento will provide a comfortable and capable ride. It’ has a tremendous towing compacity and the hardware necessary for adverse conditions. However, we would like to see upgraded interior tech.
