Let’s face it: we can’t get enough technology in our lives. We love having the latest smartphones, we install smart tech in our homes wherever possible, and we’ve gotten to the point where smart technology is a must-have in our vehicles.

One of the most common smart features in new vehicles is Android Auto. Android Auto allows you to connect your smartphone directly to the touchscreen control panel in your car. This connectivity lets you access most of your phone’s features using voice commands, so you can avoid distractions while driving.

One of the most popular midsized sedans on the market today is the Nissan Altima. It’s affordable, reliable, and a brand favorite — but does it have Android Auto?

Consumer Reports ranks the 2020 Nissan Altima at an overall score of 84/100. One area in which the Altima shines is its fuel economy, where Consumer Reports recorded the 2020 model getting 31 mpg overall, which is a 2 mpg increase over the 2019 model. Another bright spot is the Altima’s transmission, which the road testers reported as being one of the best continuously variable transmissions they have ever tested.

But on the comfort and convenience front, the 2020 Altima falls behind its competitors. It handles bumpy roads poorly and is low to the ground, making it difficult to get in and out of. The interior doesn’t have many thoughtful details that we’ve generally come to expect in 2020 vehicles. So if you’re looking for a new car that ditches the frills for a more focused drive, then the Altima is just what you need.

What technology does the 2020 Nissan Altima offer?

While it may have fallen short of its competitors in the comfort category, it’s not completely lacking in up-to-date features. The 2020 Altima still has plenty of appealing smart technology. It has a touchscreen control panel with a simpler design than others, which makes it easier to use while you’re driving. And, yes, the 2020 Altima offers both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, giving you the freedom to send and receive phone calls and text messages, use your phone’s navigational system, play your favorite playlists or audiobooks, and access your phone’s calendar – all simply by using voice commands.

New with this year’s model is the NissanConnect Services app. This app allows you to remotely lock or unlock your car, locate your car through GPS, flash your lights on and off, honk the horn, and even start your car all from your phone. You can also connect your car to your Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, giving you the freedom to be more connected than ever before.

The Nissan Altima is a family-friendly sedan

While technology makes our drives easier and more enjoyable, the biggest area that consumers look at when researching a new vehicle is safety. The 2020 Altima has more safety features offered than any model before.

Standard features include a forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and a rearview camera. Optional safety features include pedestrian detection, a lane departure warning, blind-spot warning, and lane-keeping assistance.

The Altima tested well with both the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), which performs crash tests on new vehicles each year. The IIHS rated the 2020 Altima “Good” in every category, and it earned either four or five stars in each crash test performed by the NHTSA, with an overall safety rating of five stars.

If you’re looking to get a new car this year, the 2020 Nissan Altima is a good option for those looking for quality over flash. It’s an affordable and safe sedan that’s sure to last for many years to come.
