Does the Nissan Frontier Have a Nice Interior?
The Nissan Frontier is one of the most affordable and oldest truck models still being made today. Although it’s been called an anti-luxury pickup truck, the Frontier is still a truck that has a decent interior. Here’s what car reviewers had to say about the Frontier’s interior.
Pros of the Frontier’s interior
Kelley Blue Book, affording to U.S. News, said that the driver’s seats on the Frontier are the most comfortable seats in the mid-sized pickup truck segment. Similarly, Edmunds reported that although the Frontier’s seats were simply designed, they did their job just fine and were very comfortable. Additionally, the Frontier’s seats made it easy for drivers to find a comfortable driving position, allowing them to easily see the road ahead.
Consumer Reports, which tested the Frontier in 2016, gave the same praise towards the comfort of the Frontier’s seats. Consumer Reports also mentioned that the seats were firm and supportive and were adjustable in several ways.
On top of that, both U.S. News and Consumer Reports said that the overall interior of the Frontier was simply designed and very straightforward to use. Although the materials used by Nissan in the interior of the Frontier isn’t fancy, U.S. News mentioned that the material was sturdy and reliable. Consumer Reports said similar things about the Frontier, in fact, Consumer Reports said that the Frontier had “well-fitting textured plastics.”
And although the Frontier is a 15-year-old design, the latest model years of the Frontier do come with standard infotainment features such as a 7-inch touchscreen, a four-stereo speaker system, and Bluetooth and USB support.
Cons of the Frontier’s interior
While the seats themselves were comfortable, both Consumer Reports and U.S. News said that there wasn’t too much legroom, especially in the rear seats. U.S. News mentioned that the rear seats are pretty standard for a work truck like the Frontier, and that while they’re good for kids, they’re not good for adults who are on a long ride.
And, as a result of Nissan’s 15-year-old design, while the interior of the Frontier is simple, straightforward, and easy to use, it simply looks old, according to Kelley Blue Book. This old age also leads to other issues.
For instance, Consumer Reports didn’t like how few smart safety systems were offered on the Frontier. This is true for both the standard build of the Frontier as well as the optional features that it has. Nissan simply doesn’t have any smart safety features like automatic emergency braking or adaptive cruise control available on the Frontier.
While not having these features may not bother some folks, many other mid-size pickup trucks have a whole suite of smart safety features as standard. By not having those features, the Frontier does become a generally less safe truck than its competitors.
Does it have a nice interior?
While the Frontier has been updated every model year to stay competitive, the interior is still very basic. That is just the result of Nissan not redesigning the Frontier for so long. As a result, while many reviewers complimented the simplistic and straightforward nature of the Frontier’s interior, every reviewer agreed that the Frontier’s interior wasn’t great.
At the end of the day, the Frontier’s interior just does what Nissan wanted it to do. The Frontier is a cheap work truck that’s comfortable enough for its driver and passengers and can do all the work that needs to be done. There aren’t many fancy add-ons on it because the Frontier and its owners don’t need them. So, while the Frontier’s interior isn’t good, it’s good enough for the folks who are buying the Frontier.
