The Nissan Murano stands out thanks to its stylish exterior styling and comfortable, luxurious interior. As Nissan’s first crossover SUV, it’s one of the oldest models in the midsize SUV segment. But technology-wise, Nissan hasn’t left the Murano back in the early 2000s since the automaker has kept its infotainment and safety features current.

If buyers need to have Siri’s guidance in the Murano, they’ll have it because this SUV does indeed come with Apple CarPlay. Apple CarPlay allows drivers to sync their compatible Apple devices for seamless smartphone integration on the Nissan Murano’s touchscreen display. You can make calls, send texts with your voice, use compatible apps and more.

The Nissan Murano is also equipped with more than enough tech to compete with the likes of rivals like the Ford Edge and the Honda Passport. Here’s a look at the standard and optional infotainment and safety features that the 2020 Nissan Murano has to offer, thanks to Nissan and U.S. News and World Report.

The Nissan Murano’s infotainment and connectivity features

A customizable 8.0-inch color touchscreen display that supports the Nissan SUV‘s infotainment system is standard for all 2020 Murano models. Also standard for all trim levels are Apple CarPlay with Siri Eyes Free, Android Auto, and Bluetooth hands-free phone system and streaming audio. Navigation, voice recognition, and SiriusXM with Travel Link weather and traffic updates are standard features as well.

The Murano is also equipped with two USB-A and two USB-C ports, and two of them are located on the back of the center console so that rear-seat passengers can charge their devices. Three 12-volt DC outlets and a six-speaker audio system complete the Murano’s standard infotainment features.

Optional infotainment upgrades include HD Radio, which transmits digital and analog radio signals at the same time on the same frequency. There’s also an available 11-speaker Bose premium sound system including dual subwoofers. 

The Nissan Murano’s safety and security features

U.S. News gives the 2020 Nissan Murano a 9.7 score for safety, which is better than rivals the Honda Passport and the Hyundai Santa Fe. While the Murano’s five-star NHTSA rating can be credited in some part for this score, this SUV’s solid roster of standard and optional safety features also comes into play.

In the base Murano S, standard safety features include four-wheel ABS and disc brakes, a tire pressure monitoring system, an energy-absorbing steering column, and a LATCH child seat system. Other standard safety features are rear door child safety locks, daytime running lights, and stability control. Nissan has also updated the Murano’s already-extensive airbag system in 2019 to include driver and front-passenger knee airbags.

Nissan made relatively few changes to the Murano for the 2020 model year. But perhaps the most important one was expanding the availability of advanced safety features across trim levels. Now, the extensive Nissan Safety Shield 360 package is an option for the base model S and is standard on the SV, SL and Platinum trims.

Included in this package are forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, rear automatic braking, and rear cross-traffic alert. This package also provides lane departure warning, automatic high-beam headlights, and blind-spot warning. Adaptive cruise control is also standard in trim levels above the S model.

Standard security features for the base model are Nissan’s vehicle security system and vehicle immobilizer system. The Murano also has a standard smart key system with push-button start. This system also syncs with the memory seat and steering wheel positioning so that they are personalized for each key used for the Murano.

Additional standard features for specific Nissan Murano models

Above the base model, Nissan offers specific convenience and safety features that add appeal to each trim level. For example, the SV model comes standard with a remote start system with intelligent climate control, a Homelink universal garage door opener, and heated exterior mirrors. It also has an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, power-adjustable front seats. and a rear sonar system to help drivers park.

The SL trim level features build on those of the SV model’s with a traffic sign recognition system that shows the driver speed limit or road construction signs that he or she might have missed. This trim level also provides navigation, LED fog lights and a motion-activated liftgate.

The top trim level, the Platinum, has all of the features that the SV and the SL have plus a dual-panel moonroof, a telematics system for vehicle location, and the Bose 11-speaker audio system.

For a midsize SUV that starts at $31,350, the Nissan Murano offers not only distinctive styling but also great value thanks to the automaker’s carefully curated array of infotainment and safety tech.
