Domino’s Delivery Eliminates the Oven in Cars by Announcing a Fleet of 800 Chevy Bolts Instead
Domino’s Pizza has spent decades innovating the pizza delivery process, and the pizza giant is once again spearheading change through the use of electric vehicles. The company has a growing fleet of Chevy Bolt EVs to deliver pizzas while reducing emissions. Along with this major change to its delivery service, Domino’s is also giving the public a chance to win a Bolt EV, and you don’t even have to order from Domino’s to be eligible to win.
Innovative pizza delivery methods
The Chevy Bolt fleet for Domino’s is an unsurprising move considering the company’s history of making advancements in food delivery. According to MotorTrend, more than 60 years ago, Domino’s purchased VW Beetles for delivery at a time before pizza delivery wasn’t normalized in the pizza business.
Fast-forwarding to 2015, Domino’s introduced the notorious DXP, a Chevy Spark modified to be a pizza delivery machine. This meant that the DXP included a built-in oven so customers would never have to worry about their pizzas arriving cold. While the DXP earned a considerable amount of attention at the time, Domino’s did not stick with the idea, and only a limited number of DXP vehicles were ever produced. Because of the novelty of a car designed for pizza delivery, though, the DXP still has a fan base today.
Domino’s has even implemented a self-driving pizza delivery vehicle. MotorTrend states that in 2021, Domino’s partnered with autonomous vehicle company Nuro to launch a self-driving delivery vehicle. This only operated in Houston, but it still highlights Domino’s focus on innovation.
Domino’s now has an electric delivery vehicle fleet
Now, Domino’s has committed to updating its delivery technology once again, except this time, it will not use self-driving robots or cars with ovens. Domino’s is now building a fleet of Chevy Bolt EVs for its locations throughout the United States. According to Domino’s, the company already has 130 Bolt EVs on the road today, which will continue to increase. The pizza company plans to have more than 800 EVs on the road by the end of next year.
The customized Domino’s Chevy Bolt EVs have been given a striking design incorporating the company’s signature blue and red color scheme. Lightning bolts are also prominently displayed in reference to the electric power of the cars.
Making the switch to an electric fleet is part of the company’s long-term net-zero carbon emissions goal, which they hope to reach by 2050. Electric vehicles could offer another benefit to the company, as Bolt EVs can travel up to 259 miles per charge. Delivery drivers will likely be able to spend all day delivering pizzas without needing to stop to charge, and the company will not have to rely on costly gas for fuel.
You can win a Chevy Bolt from Domino’s
If you are a fan of Domino’s Pizza, the Chevy Bolt EV, or both, you can even win a new car thanks to the company’s new fleet acquisition. As part of the new fleet, Domino’s is hosting a contest to give away two Bolt EVs.
The sweepstakes started on Nov. 22, and eligibility will end on Feb. 12, 2023. To enter, all a Domino’s customer has to do is order a pizza, but there are also ways to enter without making a purchase. On Instagram or TikTok, you can post a video with the hashtags #contest and #DominosDeliversAChevy to enter the sweepstakes. Videos must be posted before Dec. 4, 2022.
