It’s no secret that controversial businessman and former U.S. President Donald Trump likes a bit of flash. Incidentally, a glimpse at Trump Tower in New York City confirms his aesthetic with copious gold accents. However, few things Trump has owned are quite as wild and striking as one of his past cars: a 1997 Lamborghini Diablo VT Roadster in eye-popping Blu Le Mans.

Donald Trump had a flamboyant 1997 Lamborghini Diablo VT Roadster before the supercar went to auction

The President of the United States (POTUS) is perhaps the most high-profile person on the planet. However, not many former POTUSes boast flashy collector’s cars. Well, President Joe Biden has a stunning second-generation Chevrolet Corvette tucked away, but he’s a bit of an exception. That said, President Biden’s predecessor, Donald Trump, has a long history with wild rides. However, few cars in Donald Trump’s collection outshine his 1997 Lamborghini Diablo VT Roadster.

According to Barrett-Jackson, the former president’s open-air supercar is one of just 132 to make it to the U.S. market during its two-year run. To add to the model’s rarity, the then-businessman special ordered the Diablo VT Roadster in Blu Le Mans, a paint scheme that the iconic Italian automaker didn’t offer in 1997.

However, Donald Trump doesn’t own the blue Lambo any longer. He sold the car in 2002 after owning and driving for years. Fast forward to 2024, and the brilliantly blue Lamborghini crossed the auction block at a Scottsdale Barrett-Jackson auction. Oh, and all too appropriately, the Donald Trump-owned Diablo netted $1.1 million. Frankly, the average value of a 1997 Lamborghini Diablo VT Roadster sits at around $272,341, per Classic.com.

Moreover, former President Trump might be the only living person to occupy the office of POTUS and own a Lamborghini supercar. Make of that what you will. Sure, over a decade ago, there were rumors that former President George W. Bush purchased one of the first stateside Lamborghini Aventador models. However, the rumors were false and former President Bush didn’t take delivery of the all-wheel drive (AWD) monster.
