Don’t Be Fooled by the Dodge Durango, Its Overpriced
It’s time to look a long hard look at the price of the 2020 Dodge Durango. You always hear people say it’s nicer than expected, but if it’s so great, why don’t more people buy it? Perhaps it’s because the Dodge Durango is actually a bit too expensive.
Is the Dodge Durango a Good Car?
Currently, the Dodge Durango claims to be the king of SUVs. To get started with the so-called king or the 2020 Dodge Durango has a starting price of around $30k, which is a large number for most families. The Kia Sorento also has three rows of seats and starts around $24k.
Also, this SUV king is pretty thirsty with expensive tastes. It only gets up to 19 mpg in the city and up to 26 mpg on the highway. The Kia Sorento is a little better on gas and gets up to 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway.
Standard Dodge Durango Power
With the base model of the Dodge Durango, you get the 3.6-liter V6 Pentastar engine that provides 293 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. This is a nice engine, rivals such as the Kia Sorento start with a four-cylinder option, making paying more for the V6 seem worth it.
The base model of the Dodge Durango can tow up to 6,200 lb and carry a payload of up to 1,380 lb, which is powerful for its price. But to Tow up to 8,700 lb, you will need to upgrade to the Dodge Durango Citadel trim that starts around $47k.

Don’t forget to add the tow package on for about $1,100 as well. That’s pretty pricey for the ability to tow 8,000 lb. Also, that’s the cheapest trim option that allows you to choose one of the V8 engines.
While we’re on the subject of hidden fees and expensive upgrades, adding the 3rd row of seats to the base model trim costs an extra $1,075! Those better be great seats at that price. Also, the Dodge Durango is only available with all-wheel-drive instead of four-wheel-drive.
All-wheel-drive isn’t included in the base trim. It’s only included with the Dodge Durango SRT trim that starts around $62k. In our opinion, a $62k SUV should have the option for a four-wheel drive, but oh well. To add AWD to the base model trim, it costs about $2,600, which is pretty steep. Most vehicles allow you to add AWD from around $1,400.
What Comes Standard With the Dodge Durango?
If you buy the base model Dodge Durango, you’ll get five cloth seats. Upgrade to a more expensive trim if you want leather seats, seats with lumbar support, seats with extended cushions, heated seats, or ventilated seats.
Also, with the base model, forget about the remote start, integrated navigation, and the entertainment system. But the Dodge Durango SXT does still offer wireless phone connectivity so you can play your favorite music.
The 2020 Dodge Durango SXT base model also doesn’t include a lot of standard safety features. You don’t get parking sensors, blind-spot warnings, forward collision prevention, adaptive cruise control, and more. The king of SUVs is actually pretty overpriced, especially when you consider that you have to pay extra for the 3rd row of seats for in a three-row SUV.
