Don’t Buy the 2022 Chevy Colorado if You Can Get the 2022 Ford Ranger
Depending on who you ask, this might be a controversial opinion. The 2022 Chevy Colorado is a reasonably priced truck, but it keeps getting overlooked for the 2022 Ford Ranger. What is driving people away from the Chevrolet truck and into the front seat of the Ford?
Why you should avoid the 2022 Chevy Colorado for the 2022 Ford Ranger
Many people are brand loyal, and truck drivers are no different. Unfortunately, the 2022 Chevy Colorado just isn’t cutting it for the experts out there. Recently, Consumer Reports put the Chevrolet Colorado on its list of “popular cars to avoid.” While the experts noted the 2022 Colorado was more refined than the Toyota Tacoma, it still fell short in many categories.
It only scored a 45 overall and got a rock-bottom predicted owner satisfaction score. The seats were uncomfortable, and the driving position left a lot to be desired. In general, there were just a lot of minor details that brought the Chevy truck down.
Consumer Reports ended up suggesting the 2022 Ford Ranger as a better alternative. It scored higher on the road test and the predicted owner satisfaction. It also scored well in the predicted reliability section. CR ranked the Ranger second out of nine similar compact pickup trucks, ahead of the Colorado.
What do the people at Edmunds say about the 2022 Ford Ranger?
However, not everyone agrees. When Edmunds rated the two trucks, the Chevy Colorado actually came out ahead. Edmunds gave the Colorado a respectable score of 7.6 out of 10. It comes in six color options and four trim levels, plus it offers a gasoline V6 or diesel four-cylinder. The truck was easy to maneuver due to its size, and the people at Edmunds found the ride to be comfortable.
However, it still came equipped with some negatives. The front seats were uncomfortable, and other trucks had more in-cab storage. The Colorado also doesn’t offer enough driver assistance features for such a modern truck.
On the other hand, Edmunds says the 2022 Ford Ranger comes with nine color options and three trim options. It offers quick acceleration from a turbocharged engine and many advanced safety features. It doesn’t have the most in-cabin storage or most comfortable ride over deteriorating roads, but there wasn’t much to complain about.
The Ford truck and Chevy trucks still have a lot to offer buyers
Both trucks will get the job done when it comes down to it. The 2022 Ford Ranger has more options and upgrades for the 2022 year. This year, it got a complete redesign and offered a new Splash Package that makes it stand out, looks-wise. Ford also added a SecuriCode keyless entry system to the 2022 Ranger, making it easier to get into if you don’t have the key.
The 2022 Chevy Colorado isn’t an awful truck to purchase, but the 2022 Honda Ridgeline and 2022 Ford Ranger are just more well-rounded trucks for the money. If the Colorado lands in your lap, have no fear. The truck will get the job done. However, if you have the chance to test drive some other trucks, see which one suits your needs better.
