Don’t Buy an Outdated 2022 Toyota Sequoia Until You See the New 2023 Toyota SUV
The 2022 Toyota Sequoia SUV is currently on sale. But on Tuesday night, Toyota revealed its capable and luxurious next-generation 2023 Sequoia. You may want to think twice about spending money on the old 2022 Toyota SUV before taking a look at the all-new 2023 Toyota Sequoia.
Every 2023 Toyota Sequoia will be a hybrid
Even the base-model 2023 Sequoia will offer Toyota’s all-new i-FORCE MAX drivetrain. The heart of the i-FORCE MAX is a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine. On its own, this engine makes enough power to replace the outgoing 5.7-liter V8, but Toyota did not stop there.
To create the i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain, Toyota sandwiched an electric motor between the V6 and ten-speed transmission. In the 2022 Toyota Tundra, this electric motor can launch the truck and accelerate to 18 mph before the gasoline-powered V6 needs to start up. The electric motor actually continues to assist the gasoline engine until the turbochargers kick in.
When braking, the i-FORCE MAX drivetrain uses the electric motor to slow the vehicle and recharge its battery pack. The result is an incredibly smooth and powerful vehicle, according to MotorTrend’s reviewers.
In the 2023 Sequoia, the i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain will make 437 horsepower and 583 lb-ft of torque. For those keeping track at home, that’s 70 lb-ft more torque than the Ford F-150 Raptor.
The 2023 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro features off-road performance
The 2023 Toyota Sequoia offers air suspension with load-leveling and real-time adaptive variable suspension (AVS) for towing. The 2023 Sequoia’s maximum towing capacity is 9,000 pounds. The cutting-edge SUV even offers trailer backup guide with the company’s “straight path assist.”
During Toyota’s 2023 Sequoia launch, the automaker demonstrated the capabilities of the TRD Pro trim level. This package optimizes the Sequoia’s advanced suspension for 4×4 adventures.
The Sequoia’s TRD Pro package adds FOX Racing shock absorbers a roof rack and TRD rims. In addition, this 4×4 Sequoia trim features Toyota’s off-road driver aids. These aids include a multi-terrain select (MTS) which tunes the suspension and traction for various surfaces.
The new Sequoia also offers off-road throttle and braking control software so the driver can set a speed and focus on steering: crawl control (CRAWL) and downhill assist control (DAC). These driver aids have proven themselves on the Tacoma, and now Toyota is offering them in its full-size 4x4s.
