Don’t Buy the 2021 Honda Civic, Wait for Spring
The arrival of the 2022 Honda Civic Prototype marked some significant changes for one of its most important models. Aside from the obvious visual improvements, the 2022 Civic should arrive with better tech and a redesigned interior. As a result, the new generation is set to be a massive step forward. That leaves the current-gen Civic already feeling a bit outdated. According to CarsDirect, there aren’t even any major rebates from the model.
The 2022 Honda Civic will debut in early 2021
Although the Honda Civic Prototype revealed some major changes, there is still plenty we don’t know. According to MotorTrend, the 2022 Civic is expected to make its official debut sometime in the spring of 2021. From there, it should go on sale relatively quickly. This means that if you can wait a few months to buy a brand-new Civic, you’ll benefit from some major improvements.
For 2022, the Honda Civic ditches the current-gen’s over-styled look in exchange for a sleek design that draws inspiration from Acura. The interior is set to be a major step up and features a 9-inch infotainment screen and a digital instrument cluster, says MotorTrend. While there won’t be a Civic Coupe, there will be Si and Type R models. Additionally, the hatchback variant is reportedly also on the way.
In terms of engine, MotorTrend report that the 2022 Honda Civic should provide greater efficiency and power from the range of engines we have in the current-generation model.
There are no major rebates for the 2021 Honda Civic
With the arrival of the 2022 Honda Civic just around the corner, you’d think Honda would offer some smoking deals on the current-gen. However, CarsDirect reports that there are no deals available for the 2021 model. However, the 2020 model gets a couple of decent deals as we move into 2021.
The first is a lease deal, which costs $250 per month for the base LX and requires no money down. The deal tops out at $300 per month for the Honda Civic EX-L. The second offer is a financing deal with 1.9 percent APR for up to 60 months and 2.9 percent APR up to 72 months, says CarsDirect. As of writing, Honda hasn’t announced any deals for the 2021 model. The result is that you’ll pay full price for a vehicle that will be replaced at the beginning of 2021.
Check out these alternatives instead
If you are currently shopping for a 2021 Honda Civic, these are some great alternatives. Unlike the 2021 Civic, both the 2021 Mazda3 and 2021 Corolla have excellent deals available. Additionally, Consumer Reports ranked both the Mazda and Toyota over the Honda with greater predicted reliability and a cheaper base price.
CarsDirect reports that you can currently get a rebate of $1,000 for both the Toyota Corolla sedan and hatchback. If leasing is your thing, the 2021 Corolla is available for $189 per month with $1,999 due at signing, effectively making it $240 per month. This means the Toyota is both cheaper and newer than the Honda Civic.
The Mazda3, on the other hand, offers up to $1,750 off by stacking a couple of available offers. Additionally, you’ll be able to get a 0.9 percent APR for 60 months. There’s also a $189 per month lease deal for 36 months with $2,499 due at signing.
It is worth noting that unlike the Honda Civic, the Toyota Corolla and the Mazda3 don’t have any major updates scheduled for the near future. As a result, you’ll be able to buy either and have the latest generation model for quite some time.
