The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L came out with a bang, but keep in mind that it’s not the only Grand Cherokee option. The classic two-row 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee model is on the way to fill the need of those who don’t need seven seats.

The new two-row 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee is coming

If you were disappointed by the new, larger Jeep Grand Cherokee L, don’t worry. The classic two-row model is on the way. It’s just currently being tested. Recently, Auto Blog caught a few spy shots of the Grand Cherokee in the wild, and it looks pretty exciting.

Despite being covered in camouflage, you can tell that the 2022 Grand Jeep Cherokee is a smaller version of the L. It looks like it has a shorter wheelbase, the rear doors are shorter, and the grille is placed a bit lower.

The 2022 Grand Jeep Cherokee may have a different face. The L is pretty square-shaped, but the two-row model looks a little more angular. Also, the corner vents cut into the facia, and the grille might be larger. This may provide a sportier look that differentiates it from the big family hauler.

New Grand Jeep Cherokee power

Jeep hasn’t confirmed what type of power the two-row Grand Cherokee will have. If it’s similar to the L, it could have the same standard 3.6-liter V6 engine with 290 hp and 257 lb-ft of torque engine.

But with the Jeep Grand Cherokee L, you can upgrade to the 5.7-liter V8 engine with 357 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque. We aren’t sure if the two-row model will get this beefier engine.

Also, it’s safe to expect a hybrid variant. The Jeep Cherokee 4xe is already available in Europe, and the plug-in hybrid Grand Cherokee L has already been announced.

The 2021 model can tow up to 7,200 lb, so we don’t expect an increase in power. This is an impressive amount of strenght for a midsize SUV. But it will ride on the same new platform that the L has. This could give it more power and a smoother ride.

Also, the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee may benefit from the independent front and rear suspensions alone with the class-exclusive Quadra-Lift air suspension. The new electronic adaptive dampening feature will help provide a premium experience too.

You can expect the new 4×4 front-axle disconnect for off-roading, which can default to rear-wheel-drive when you don’t need all-wheel-drive. So, you can have off-roading power, plus the sporty excitement of a rear-wheel-drive SUV.

New Jeep Grand Cherokee interior updates

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee may adopt similar interior features from the Grand Cherokee L, including an optional 10.1-inch Uconnect system and a 10.25-inch digital cluster display. Plus, the new multifunction steering wheel with paddle shifters can control the cluster display.

Convenience features may include heated and ventilated seats, an electronic rear liftgate, and more. But we will have to wait and see. The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee starts at about $32,454. It may raise in price a little due to significant updates. But it won’t start around $38,690 like the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L.
