Don’t Rely on the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS 450 If You Need Normal Cupholders
The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS 450 is a very luxurious three-row SUV filled with a plethora of features. There are fancy LED in-cabin lights and large screens to marvel at. There’s an A.I. software built in that helps you turn on certain features by saying, “Hey, Mercedes!” There’s even a park assist feature that assists with parallel parking the massive SUV in a pinch.
As you can imagine, the Mercedes-Benz GLS 450 also has plenty of storage solutions and places to put your drinks. However, it’s not the greatest car for cupholders.
How many cupholders does the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS 450 have?
There are 10 cupholders in the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS 450 if you count the door pockets. However, those pockets are massive and great for holding 20-ounce water bottles, but smaller bottles may roll around. The two cupholders up front fit my water bottle well and can accommodate smaller bottles, too. But there’s one particular cupholder that strikes me as odd, though.
Mercedes-Benz got a little creative and placed two cupholders in the back of the center console between the front seats. The beverage-holding pair is within easy reach of the second-row captain’s chairs, but the odd thing is that one of them is really small. I couldn’t even fit a normal-sized travel cup in it.
If anything, it could be meant for a baby bottle or champagne flute. But I’m guessing the latter would be more fitting for the $92,000 SUV.
Enough with the cupholders; the GLS 450 has much more
Weird cupholders aside, there’s plenty more to love about the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS. It has the same A.I. software found in other Mercedes models, which allows you to give it commands and turn on certain features. Say, “Hey, Mercedes! I’m cold,” and the system will set the cabin temperature to 72 degrees.
You can even have it tell you a joke, tell you the weather, or turn on other features like the heated steering wheel. Just remember not to say, “Hey, Siri,” like I might have done once… just once.
Other fancy features include the LED interior lighting package that allows you to toggle between all the colors in the light spectrum and the park assist feature. There are also set themes like “Malibu Sunset,” which is a mix between pink and blue. I recommend it for a relaxing ambiance when driving at night.
The park assist feature allows you to parallel park or back the car into a space with the system’s assistance. Yes, the car steers, changes gears, and brakes itself, but no, it’s not a full self-driving system by any means.
The Mercedes GLS 450 can get low
My Mercedes GLS 450 tester for the week is also fitted with the AIRMATIC air suspension, which provides a super stable ride over nearly any type of uneven pavement. It feels like a couch floating on a cloud, but what’s even cooler than the cushy ride is the fact the car can lower and rise with the flip of a switch.
There is even a switch in the cargo area that allows you to lower the car to fit larger items into the trunk with ease. That’s a handy feature, considering the GLS is a large car that rides high. All things considered, it’s amazing the type of ingenuity Mercedes puts into its cars, even if one invention is made for a baby bottle… or champagne flute.
