What Is it Like to Drive the 2023 Genesis G90 in the Snow?
We enjoyed the 2023 Genesis G90 over the course of a week and were able to drive it on a variety of roads in Denver, Colorado. At one point, it started to snow. And although you might think that the snowy climate would necessitate driving an SUV or a truck, the G90 proved that it could handle nearly anything you put it through just fine.

When it comes to driving in the snow, one general rule of thumb is that a car’s tires are more important than the wheels it drives on. For example, you can easily get through a winter in Denver with a Honda S2000 on a good set of all-season tires. But, of course, it would be better with a proper set of winter tires.
The point is that you don’t really need all-wheel drive, but it sure does help. As in the case of the 2023 Genesis G90, we didn’t have to worry about getting stuck in certain places. The full-size sedan easily trudged through the snow-covered roads we drove it on. It probably helped that the car weighs 4,861 pounds, which is more than what the current Honda Pilot weighs.
Additionally, the G90’s 21-inch wheels were wrapped in Michelin Primacy all-season tires, which gripped surprisingly well in the couple of inches of snow we drove through. We wouldn’t recommend treading in deep snow, though, as it is possible for the car to get stuck.
How does the Genesis G90 drive?
On normal pavement, the Genesis G90 drives very well. It has a multi-chamber air suspension that soaks up any bumps or dips in the road with ease. But when the tight corners in the road come, the G90 is quick to handle them with sporty accuracy. However, it’s not a sports car, so don’t expect backroad-carving handling characteristics. That said, it’s not as lofty as a Mercedes-Benz S-Class, either.
Additionally, the car’s steering effort is easy, and there’s a decent amount of road feel that translates through the wheel. You can actually feel the way the wheels are turning when you drive the car, which is rare in a large luxury car.
The turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine is buttery smooth and has plenty of power. There are 409 ponies on tap and 405 lb-ft of thrust, which gets the car moving up to freeway speeds in a hurry. In fact, Car and Driver tested the G90, and it got to 60 mph from a standstill in a hair over five seconds, which is quick for a luxury hauler.
What kind of gas mileage does the G90 get?
According to the EPA, the Genesis G90 can obtain up to 17 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. In our testing, we achieved close to the EPA’s combined rating of 20 mpg by getting 19 mpg in our week of driving in various situations. One thing was for sure, though, no matter what kind of pavement we drove the G90 on, it excelled with ease.
